Oh Heavens...don't do that. I like a lot of what Congressman Billybob says. But as I understand it he is [pro-abortion].. I need the peace of knowing that any new USSC apointie puts a high vaule on innocent life. It is a core issue with me.

Please, say it isn't so.

What say you, BillyBob? Is killing babies OK, protected by the Constitution, and in any way acceptable?

No I did not say that. And I hope that he is never in position that I would have to feel that way. When it comes to the Constitution He is almost always right. He is tuff and not afraid to say what he believes. He is actually a very good person to have on our side. I just have that one issue that is pretty important to me. I know a guy who is a Christian and he was a history teacher. He had the same views as Bob. He was not for abortion. He just did not think that we had the constitutional right to stop it. Someone finally convinced him that the declaration of independence did give us the responsibility to protect the unborn. He has different views now. But That Aside I can't help but like Bob and respect him.

No, "killing babies" is not okay. But I take a position which I believe correct that winds up angering both sides on the issue of abortion. To wit:

The US Constitution is absolutely silent on the subject of abortion. On the other hand, that has been part of the criminal law of all jurisdictions going back to the English common law. It is up to every state to determine its own criminal law.

So if North Carolina, New York, and Nevada reach different decisions on the subject, that is permitted by the US Constitution.

I know that answer will displease some people, perhaps even both of you. But I always start any discussion of political basics with the plain language -- or lack of language -- of the Constitution on that subject.
