WASHINGTON - President Bush quietly signed legislation Tuesday that would extend for 10 years a ban on plastic guns that can be slipped past airport metal detectors or through X-ray machines.

The legislation bans the manufacture, sale or possession of such firearms, but exempts military and intelligence agencies.

Now I understand that the Glock is a good 9mm weapon, but I ask you, if you have to choose between the Kimber Custom M-1911 and the Glock, why is there even a debate?

(....runs behind tree and dons flame retardent suit....)

Really, I'm a stinker. I was just trying to make trouble. But seriously, I've wanted to get a handgun for some time. I've settled on the Kimber Custom, which is a fine tactical handgun and has the stopping power of a .45. I asked my friend Mike, a local range officer with one of the PD's down here in Florida, who also happens to be a gunsmith. He seconds my emotion, and also is personal friends with one of the gun designers for Kimber.

Only two things left. Purchasing the Kimber and getting my State of Florida CCW.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Sure do, but that is completely irrelevant to your foolish claim "If theres a ban, theres a reason for it." Reason had nothing to do with this legislation. Like most other forms of firearm regulation, it's passage was based solely on misplaced emotion. Just like your blind faith in an infallible legislative process.

Those carbon fiber wheels seem to weigh almost nothing, don't they?
They are light, and very strong at room temperature (even up to a few hundred degrees C. However, the polymer resin that makes up the matrix containing the carbon fibers will melt and the part (wheel, suspension part, gun barrel or whatever) will become very weak and flexible.

I seem to remember one of the Ferari F1 cars melting a rear wishbone when an exhaust header broke at one race last year or this year. Heat is still a big problem for carbon fibre composites.

"Does anyone know that such a gun exists?"

Nope. This is just another bullshit gun ban.

I hope that they also extend the ban on phaser ray guns too. Look at how effective those bans are! Nobody has a phaser ray gun!

I have vintage 1st Generation Colts that are worth more then a a gross of brand new composite handguns and their value goes up by the second.

Lightweight alloy or composite frames experience fatique and loss of integrity over time.

Corrosion resistence aside I see little purpose in owning one.

My Colts from 1846-1898 work just dandy thank you and will never get near any xray machines.

These idiotic laws are all just feelgood garbage meant to fool the voters and advance a complete ban on all legal firearms ownership by honest American citizens.

Washington DC, Mexico, and Bagdad have bans on guns but that does not stop a killer.

What is under your kitchen sink and in your pantry is enough to build some toys you would not believe.

A killer is rarely charged, prosecuted, and convicted of a firearms violation.

Only the average citizen is.

Give me five minutes in a Target or Walmart store and a few minutes with the exterior of your vehicle and I can guarantee no testing or xray will detect anything but it will massively self destruct within a few minutes without warning.

So much for all of these laws.

Just ignore the facts I posted, such as the patent and looking into the work that's been done thus far on this type of firearm.

Friend, I am not the one working on emotions here.

Interesting.

But ignored. It's much easier to trash the Govt for passing a law that we don't like. Not that you are doing so, but others are.

Hey, I won't argue against a Kimber .45. I wouldn't mind having one myself. There are a lot of awesome 1911's out there these days. No doubt, the .45 is a better stopper, but it does take more practice, because it kicks harder than the nine.

I'm more intrigued with the .357 Sig. Less recoil than the .45, but same stopping power as the .357 Mag, which runs neck and neck with the .45 in real-world incidents. Of course, the down side to the Sig is availability of ammo. I hate tradeoffs. Cheers.

You have not posted anything here that was part of the legislative debate for this prohibition. Whether or not your hot air constitutes "facts", it wasn't part of the sponsors' rationale. There was no factual basis offered for this law and your foolish statement "If theres a ban, theres a reason for it" stands unsubstantiated.
