I agree. I'd rather live in Green Bay, too. I am also a big Packer fan!

I missed the Sharpton slap---it's 6:30 here so I'm trying to get dinner on the table.
It is now mercifully over.

Koppel breaks his arm patting himself on the back at the end. "You people are much better when you're angry. You just needed someone to get you angry." Is it any wonder why I NEVER watch Nightline anymore?
To: maggiefluffs
Why is John Edwards out in front, smiling?

At this rate, we're not too far from SNL hosting a 'Rat debate.

The funny thing is I don't think the masses of Democrats ever watch CSPAN... just the elitist types that have already chosen their particular poison.

Because he is in front of the short, and less powerful Dean... you also have Kerry out front.

I watched the debate and have a few observations:
1. Very interesting to get a sense of what themes will be used against President Bush in the general. Themes include: "Bush has made life worse/ignored ordinary people" (theme is working- recent polls show Bush falling in polls asking whether he's concerned about people like you), "Iraq = quagmire", and "Jobs lost".
2. Dean is sounding more moderate. I think he feels he's got the nomination locked up (with unions and Gore's endorsement).
3. Dean has a tendency to exaggerate/lie. He was chastised by Koppel for exaggerating how much time was spent on debating Iraq. We should start right away at impugning his truthfulness. Americans were lied to for 8 years before Bush came to office. They don't want to revert to that. Bush is high in polls on being "honest and trustworthy". He must use that to his advantage.
--
The key in this election will be to attack relentlessly and put Dean on the defensive for his incoherence/naivety/lack of experience on national security. Bash him on wanting to raise taxes $2 trillion- repeat it over and again. Then win the values debate on his insistence on gay marriage and belittling those who vote on "Gays, God, Guns".
