Thought this worthy of attention at Free Republic. If you think this article worthy of attention, please keep it bumped. If you know anyone who is pro-gold, please ping him. If there's a gold ping list (which I doubt) please ping it.

I'm going away to give you all time to decide if this is important enough to discuss. I'll be back later to see where it has gone. I don't mean to post and run, I have things to do. Sorry.

There are still ways to transact gold privately:

Pecunix

Digital Monetary Trust

Caveat emptor, of course.

The government wants to know if I buy a gold necklace for my wife? The government, let's make that the criminal fascist syndicate occupying Washington, can go to hell. Next it'll want me to count my ammo and fill out a report. It can go to hell on that, too.

This is likely just another one of those laws they bust you with if they can't catch you at anything else. I suspect that a) Most of the businesses involved aren't going to know about the requirements, b) Won't spend much time complying with them if they do, or c) Will bury the inefficient federal bureaucracy in paperwork if they do comply.

I'm not going to say anything about "what's supposed to happen vs. what really happens" in modern-day business, but if you're close friends with someone who's in one of the listed businesses, ask him what's really gonna happen.

Our politicians don't read the Constitution anymore.

You got that right, they stopped reading it the day they signed it. Incrementalism is what tyrants use to get what they want. It doesn't matter to them how long it takes, they just know that sooner or later the sheeple will give in.

FEAR THE GOVERNMENT THEY ARE THE ENEMY !!

"Tucked inside that bill is a provision that allows the FBI to serve so-called "national security letters" on a broader range of "financial institutions." National security letters require these institutions to reveal their customers' private financial as well as general information, including "tangible things."

What we got was a neocon-drive toward ever greater invasion of every single part of our lives in the name of "national security" - or whatever it is that goes under today's Nazi-like nomenclature of "homeland defense." Why not just call it "fatherland defense" and be straight up about it?

Bingo. And may I also add how warm and fuzzy I feel about having federal agents at every airport in the country, at the ready to strip search me every time I travel.

The silence from the right about the intrusion on our liberties has been deafening. Why are we not outraged that a citizen can be jailed indefinitely without the rights to attorney ot trial? The constitution is more than just the second amendment, folks. Just because a Republican is in charge does not mean it won't get trampled on.

So much for the constitutional protections from unreasonable search and seizure. The government is trying to obtain confidential and personal information even though no crime has been committed.

This is another stone in the wall towards a police state.
