Our brand-new governor was sworn in at 12:01 this morning, as was our new Adjutant General. And the liberal apparachiks all look like someone shot their dog and flushed their goldfish.
Closer to home, the Home Detachment is also in chaos. The 11th-hour prep for the trip is spazzing people out. Sarge is ready, but Missus and The Boy keep finding things, changing things, and, well, things.
Top all that off with: the duty roster got messed with, too. Sarge is now pulling an all-nighter on Wednesday, copping a few hours sleep Thursday, normal duty shift, and pulling out on Friday afternoon. Missus is first driver; she better suck it up.
I will NOT be out of contact during the trip. Elvira the Ancient Laptop is riding with me (for the techies out there, Elvira is an IBM Thinkpad 90 with a 33K dial-up), so I'll be able to check things out, and post stuff while I'm there.
So, until tonight's watch, I'll see y'all!
SARGE
In my old dial-up days, I found that I could easily get in about 5 hands of solitaire while waiting for the Canteen to load. It's one way to make the wait less frustrating!
Guess what Sarge just got today? Give up? Well, here goes (had to change the wording a little, but this is how it reads!):
The Army Commendation Medal is hereby awarded to "Old Sarge" while serving with the Regimental Tactical Operations Center of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. "Sarge" exhibited the "Can Do" attitude and high degree of professionalism necessary for the successful completion of this mission. "Sarge" was in charge of a duty shift which comprised both National Guard and Active Army soldiers. His personal success at NTC reflects the great professionalism of the NCO Corps, and the Kentucky Army National Guard.Folks, a few of you might just realize what this means to a fella like me. Recognition. It doesn't happen too often in my line of work, but when it does - wow. And the thing about it was, I was just having fun at work!
I just wanted to share a bit of big, old-fashioned good news.
SARGE
Elvira, I presume?
