Mad has blasted EVERY president, Republican and Democrat. I have read it since I was 9. Anyone who says they are only doing this to Bush because they don't like him or don't agree with him doesn't know the magazine. They went after Clinton like crazy, Bush, Carter....all the way back to Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, etc. But, no, it isn't like Rush's show where only Democrats are ridiculed. I think they ALL should be ridiculed (that's what satire is all about).

I used to read MAD back in the late 50's or maybe the early 60's. I thought it was great.

About 20 years ago I happened to notice a copy somewhere and decided to see what it was like.

A lot of the same people were still doing the work but I noticed it was of much poorer quality. I also noticed where as before, they made fun of everybody, they were then mostly making fun of conservatives.

It is probably not any more pc than most other magazines but unless it has improved lately it just is not very good.

Yes, it's humorous, but the extra set of "blood-stained" hands bothers me a bit.

Ditto. Also the reference to 'real soldiers losing their lives daily', and the lower left blurb about his National Guard service. The latter reference sounds like DU or Bartcop schtuff. Whoever wrote the copy for this went beyond lampooning him -- this is personal for somebody.

I meant lower right, not left. I was thinking about the copywriter being a leftist.

That's true. Mad has always been rather obnoxious and vulgar (one of its chief attractions). But it doesn't seem as funny as it once was and the pop culture that it pokes fun at is one hell of a lot coarser and uglier than the one I grew up with. Of course, MAD is a prime example of "pop culture".

MAD magazine died with William M. Gaines.

And now it's a Time-Warner publication.

I used to read MAD back in the late '50s....

Me, too. At one time, I owned every issue from #23 to #116 - My mom threw them out went I went to university. LOL!. ;^(

This W satire is pretty rough stuff - they were never that tough on Eisenhower!

I think the difference was that the old ones were not really mean spirited, just light hearted fun.
