Also, if you serve probation, doesn't that mean you have been found guilty of a crime?

And, could those cases be plea agreements... the perpetrator plead guilty to the crime?

Yes. I think pleas are the answer to light sentences.

However, I think he has a case for an appeal. (but I'm not a lawyer)
