Its surprising how little Americans know about France and French history, such as la Revolucion, le Tireur, Bonapartisme, la Guillotine, le Garrot, Isle du Diable, la Legion de l'Etranger, l'affaire Dreyfus, Fascisme, Dirigisme, etc. etc.
This is a direct result of our lousy American educations and our naive fixation on anomolies, like LaFayette, the Statue of Liberty, and Mademoiselles du Palmentier.
It's time we, as Americans woke up and smelled the rotten wine and cheese.
