"MPD verified that the call to Laci's cell (and subsequent message) was made at about 2:15pm PST. It was addressed at the prelim, possibly on the last day."

Thanks for the clarification.

"Except it would probably be called something else when the person wasn't really sad to see Laci go: maybe the "adjustment to change" process?"

Yes...it's not the type of grieving we think of...kind of like the feeling you have when you leave a job or situation you don't like. Even though it is not pleasant you still may feel a sense of loss. I really think it is important for the prosecution to present this guy's psychology to the jury. Some of what I notice, though, probably can't be presented in the courtroom.

On a related note: Websleuths has a copy of the new (Jan. 12th) NE. It discusses Scott's cheating (the lies he told), him ordering Viagra in Jan. 2002, and, in Jan. 2003 (less than a month after his wife and child went missing), he orders X-rated subscriptions from Dish Network.

Warning - do not read this on a weak stomach.

Did Jackie Peterson actually say it was "inconvenient" that the bodies washed up where Scott said he was fishing?

I don't remember hearing that; if she did, she sure made the wrong choice of words!

It was also stated that on 12/23 Laci had a pap smear. Why? Did she have a STD?

That wouldn't be a reason for having a pap smear. A pap smear's just a routine test for cervical cancer, or pre-cancerous conditions of the cervix. Nothing to do with VD. (LOL, Grizzfan, I always hate the way they have to change the name of everything every few years. "VD" has become "STD". "Manic-depressive" became "bipolar". "Psychopath" became "sociopath." And on and on.)

That's correct, although I believe most cervical precancers are caused by HPV which is transmitted sexually. So it can be, in a sense, an STD (to be politically correct!). Sometimes "pap smear" is used as a general term for all predelivery checks. For instance, you don't want anyone delivering vaginally with active herpes. I don't think it means anything necessarily - these checks are done on a routine basis.

Hello. Can someone tell me when the trial is supposed to start for Scott Peterson? If there is another kind of preliminary trial coming up, what is the date of that?
Thankyou.

I know, Drj, but they don't check for herpes with a pap smear! I really think, if they did a pap smear, they just did it for the usual reasons--to check the status of the cervical cells.

Yes, I guess that "human papilloma virus" is transmitted sexually, and I guess that is one of the main causes of precancerous cells on the cervix... and maybe, of cervical cancer?

Maybe it was just time for her yearly pap smear!

I don't think it means anything necessarily - these checks are done on a routine basis.

I agree with you!

I believe it is set for the end of January. Most experts (aka talking heads) don't think it will start that soon, though. The other night on Dan Abrams' show most of them seemed to think it would be in April.

Wouldn't it be great if they could have their closing arguments on the anniversary of the day in April that Laci's remains were found?

I don't think so, though. I think it will take longer for them to have the trial.

From what I read, apparently they were able to obtain Laci's DNA from whatever kind of test was done. I'm just guessing here, but wouldn't you think this late in the pregnancy special tests wouldn't be required unless there were unusual circumstances?

I know they could get DNA from a pap smear, since it consists of scraping cells off the cervix.

I don't think there was necessarily a special problem, Grizzfan. I think maybe it was just time for her routine pap smear. I dunno. Are we sure it was a pap smear?

No, not sure it was a Pap; I wondered at the terminology. It's just that I have such low regard for Scott...
