Although I have engaged in the same sort of thing. I must say that I have noticed a tendency in the media to refer to past presidents in a dignified way while spitting the name of the present commander in chief

I agree with your assessment and will fire off an email, Though I am just happy when Fox news mentions someone else besides Laci, Kobe or Micheal Jackson.

I understand your concern, but the general rule in journalism isn't that strict. Like writing a paper, you must use the "long form" first, but after that it may be shortened. It's not an intentional form of disrespect.

For example: The announcer may start a segment with, "President Bush will be meeting with several world leaders on the White House lawn this afternoon, after giving a speech on tariffs and trade at the Heritage Foundation." The announcer may then continue with, "Some topics from Bush's speech include steel quotas, etc...", or they may use "Some topics from the President's speech include..."

Although I have never noticed this as a problem on FNC, I understand your angst over this, but there is possibly a very simple explanation.

In broadcast news it is very common to drop the title/honorific, whether it be President, Governor, Mister, or whatever after the first time it has been said in the piece.

When one is trying to put as much information into a 2 and a half minute segment, there is a certain amount of "shorthand" that must be used, this is one of them. Dropping 3 syllable words helps.

Broadcast speech has its limitations that normal speech does not.

I AGREE that it should be "President Bush" -- but also that it should have been "President Clinton" as well as "President Bush" (sr) and "President Carter." What happens is that in modern US politics one side only wants the "President" applied to "their" president, which they insist is everyone's -- as it SHOULD BE regardless of policy differences. But it's the same old/new hypocrisy in play: President Clinton was always "Clinton" to the cheerleaders in the GOP just as President Bush is always "Bush" to the cheerleaders in the US.
It's wasted time discussing it -- because it's not a principle each side applies to the other. They just want to shove the word "President" down the other side's throat -- when if we all TRULY respected the office we would realize that whomever holds it IS the "President" and deserves that title.

They are jealous. GREEN with envy because our President Bush WON the election. They think he stole it. We think he won it and we KEPT it from being stolen by the opposition.
At any rate, President Bush is a man of character, dignity and integrity. He is also a family man who loves his wife and all his family. He is also a man who believes deeply in his God and who has enough faith to move mountains. He is loved and respected by his troops as their Commander in Chief. He genuinely cares about them and doesn't LOATHE the military like his predecessor and his wife. He professes his faith in public and he is a good, kind man to everyone...even the foul mouthed of the left. He speaks the truth and that is the real enemy!!!

All of that equals this: Envy and Jealousy rearing it's ugly (and I DO mean ugly) heads once again. :)

NEVER FORGET

Praise GOD that...

President BUSH as promised...

FREEDOM's Return to:

Communist North Vietnam
Communist Vietnam
Communist Cuba ..and..

FREEDOM's Arrival to all the Countries of the Middle East...

as our own best Self-Defense against future Terrorist Attacks here at Home.

...Our Enemy Within HILLARY is now trying to force President BUSH into bringing back the same Military Draft in Election Year 2004 that helped bring down President JOHNSON's Presidency in 1968 ...by calling for more American Troops to be sent to Iraq & Afghanistan on National TV Interview Shows today.

...This after HILLARY RODHAM & BILL CLINTON guaranteed the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001 on US all, after they had left the White House, with their refusals to accept the Sudan's 3 Offers during the 1990's to send to American Custody our No. 1 Terrorist Enemy OSAMA bin LADEN.

I wonder WHY? =

I've always used simply the last name unless it's in a professional setting. In a professional setting, I've used "President Bush" or "Mr. Clinton"(I can not use the title for him...ever).
