Jonathan Luna's twisted world of sex and debt probed.

Posted on 12/07/2003 9:40:19 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs

Investigators looking into the murder of Jonathan Luna have turned up startling information that even his own wife didn't know about.

When the body of Jonathan Luna was discovered, the initial response was that the murder may have been at the hands of the criminals that he was prosecuting, an act of retaliation. But now the investigation has taken a completely different turn and is focusing on Luna's personal life.

According to TIME Magazine the FBI has found messages posted on adult messaging sites placed by a Jonathan Luna seeking female sex partners.

The body of the assistant attorney was found face down in a Pennsylvania creek on Thursday, 90 miles from his Baltimore office. Luna was stabbed 36 times, some deep wounds, others shallow puncture marks.

Because of the vast number of wounds investigators believe that Luna's death was driven by passion. The coronor says that Luna was still alive when he was dumped in the creek because his lungs were filled with water.

Investigators also discovered that Luna had financial problems in that he had credit cards that his wife didn't even know about. TIME magazine also found two personal ads that match the description of Mr Luna. However, it should be noted that someone else could have posted the online ads, TIME Magazine points out that there is another person named Jonathan Luna who is a convicted sex offender.

It is also noted that Luna travelled to the same area of Pennsylvania weeks before his death and he might have met someone out there. Investigators have questioned Luna's wife, parents and friends. Officials have said that so far everything is on the table and they will continue their investigation.

Since there is also a sex-offener by the same name, I would not yet jump to conclusions. However, the credit cards do look suspicious.

Why would anyone, especially a high profile person, use their real name on a sex ad?

My thoughts, too. It could easily have been a ploy by someone else who wanted to defame Luna. In an era of widespread identity theft, preliminary reports of the existence of mysterious credit cards are also somewhat premature to draw any conclusions.

When I was in the Navy, our Chief had to serve on the jury at a sailor's court martial. The crime? The sailor had placed an ad in a gay swinger's magazine. He included his picture, his real name and the ship's mailing address for his contact info. D'oh!

I had a sneaking suspicion that this might be the outcome of the story of Luna's murder.

It never made sense that he would leave his office late at night for a rendezvous as part of his 'professional' activities. Just doesn't happen like that for a typical Asst. U.S. atty.

The self-destructive thrill of the brazenly illicit. Like sex in public places.

I'm still wondering about the plea bargain, and why Luna suddenly agreed to terms that were a lot less severe than what he'd insisted upon previously.

Jonathan Luna's twisted world of sex and debt probed

So far, from the meager information presented, this is rather a scurrilous conclusion. We know that he posted personal adds - which 10's of millions of people do every day. That his marriage may not have been happy is sad - but really this is his perusal life. We are further informed that he has credit card debts - again which millions and millions of people have. We are not informed about the amounts of his credit card debt, nor the nature of the purchases, although again these are really little of our business. Assuming that the purchases were lawful, and he is servicing his just debts and not beggaring his family thereby, we have no knowledge that this guy has been doing anything that deserves public scrutiny or censure.

One expects investigators to do what investigators have to do. But the paparazzi style headline based on nothing particularly unusual is excessive.

Sex is a "wild" card. Drives humans to do wacky stuff. Including murder.

Could it have been a female?

Could it have been a male dressed as a female?

Could it have been the husband or boyfriend of a female?

The body was taken quite a distance from the car to the creek. That takes some muscle.

Had a nurse in the ER that UPS brought a box with her name, mailing address, and work number.... for a couple of hundred dollars worth of "marital aids"...

someone with an axe to grind had done all the dirty work and played a big time practical joke on her.. however when it includes the mail, interstate commerce and stuff worth more than a couple of hundred dollars we're talking about Federal and state felonies... that's scary when the big boys come around and "just want some info... you don't mind?...do you?" (gulp!).

I'd wait till the whole thing gets figured out and then jump on the hate 'em / sorry for 'em bandwagon.
