There was Assemblywoman Nicole Parra, getting an autograph from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at a rally in Bakersfield, where he used his bully pulpit to pressure Parra and other Democrats to support his budget plan.

Adding irony to the photo that appeared last week in newspapers around the state: Parra is the Republican Party's No. 1 target in next year's Assembly races, based on her slim 266-vote victory in 2002.

The Alanis Morrissette definition of "ironic" (any occurance that is mildly unusual or interesting) seems to have replaced the standard dictionary definition.

This should be low-hanging fruit. Parra voted to give driver's licenses to illegals and to legalize "civil unions." Republicans in other states could only dream that Democrats in their states had voted for these things. But the California GOP is too afraid of offending the lifestyle liberals who watch "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and hire illegals to squirt 409 on their kitchen tables while they sip martinis by the swimming pool. The GOP still doesn't get it.
