EU offers Palestinians US$40 million in aid [more terror money]

The European Union is providing nearly US$40 million in assistance to the Palestinians for government reforms and emergency economic aid, an EU official said on Saturday.

The money will be used to support small and medium-sized businesses hurt by the conflict, judicial reforms and to finance national and local elections that are to be held in 2004.

Three years of fighting with Israel have devastated the Palestinian economy.

Roadblocks and military travel restrictions that Israel says are needed to stop suicide bombers and other attackers have kept many Palestinians from reaching jobs. In some parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, more than half of working-age Palestinians are unemployed.

In the West Bank town of Ramallah on Saturday, Palestinian officials signed an agreement launching the aid program together with Jean Breteche, the Jerusalem representative of the European Commission, the EU's executive body.

Palestinian Finance Minister Salam Fayad said that Israel must ease travel restrictions in Palestinian areas before the economy can improve.

"There is a need for (financial) assistance, but at the same time there is a need for the siege to be lifted," said Fayad, who is also a former International Monetary Fund official.

Question: Is one supposed to hold one's nose when saying "EU"?

Note to EU.
Can you say Intifada?
See, I knew you could.
Not one dime to terrorists.

As long as we give money to that regime, the EU has a right to do so, I suppose.

The EU is the number 1 contributor to the Palestinians...by far...no wonder they refuse to see homicide bombing as terror.

With their Muslim population exploding, the domestic politically expedient thing to do is to been seen as a supporter of "the Muslim oppressed", be against Israel, and condone antisemitism....They are being VERY politically expedient!!! BTW -- it has LONG been the "classy" thing to do to aspire to be considered and "intellectual"...one of the key was to fit in with this crowd is to be a "parlor antisemitic"

I think Saudis are number one, but EU is up there. The US, with around $400M a year to the Palestinian Authority terrorist regime, would be third.

You may very well be right...especially if you count the entire Arab league and not just the Saudis.

Actually, what I should have said -- of the EU foreign aid given to anyone in the world -- the number one recipient of EU foreign aid is the Palestinians.

To be even clearer, about 55% (or more) of ALL EU foreign aid goes to the Palestinians.

"There is a need for (financial) assistance, but at the same time there is a need for the siege to be lifted," said Fayad...

Like the siege on Israeli civilians, women and children in school busses, pizzarias and Malls by Palestinian monsters and the terrorist supported by them.

I am sick of these EU hypocrites.
