Victor Cruz, also known as Hugo Hernandez, also said in State Supreme Court in Kew Gardens that some of the men physically fought to be the first to rape the woman after they dragged her to a weeded area.

Justice Randall Eng told the defendant he would sentence him on Jan. 15 to between 20 to 23 years in prison so long as he testifies against his co-defendants, if called upon by prosecutors to do so.

Cruz said he, Luis Carmona, 22, Armando Juvenal, 21, and Jose Hernandez and Carlos Rodriguez, both 23, allegedly attacked a 38-year-old man and his 42-year-old girlfriend in a deserted area by the Long Island Rail Road Shea Stadium station on Dec. 19, prosecutors said.

Your link in #16 doesn't work but I have little doubt that Newsday would conveniently forget to mention they were illegal immigrants.

If they hadn't been in the country the woman would not have been raped.

I agree.

I'm getting about tired of all these people griping about all the illegal immigrants in our country. I would imagine that these people griping are the same ones that are keeping these people employed in our country. They're probably the same ones that are buying all the Chinese, slave labor, products from Wal-Mart, too!

True, but what you have not established is whether the woman would have not been raped if the men were here with proper papers.

"Do you have a source showing them to be illegals? Thanks."

Do you not know nothing about PC newspeak. It must me deduced that they are illegals, for the media source did not say otherwise.

Not being in the country at all would have kept them from raping her but thanks to our worthless border security and even worse processes for handling illegals once they're here they were able to.

Sorry, but americanpatrol.com is not a reliable news source. Whether or not I agree with their goals, they have an agenda they're pushing. They are not a news source.

We need to keep out/throw out anyone of character too poor to follow the rules. My bet is the gang-rapists don't worry about rules. Anyone you catch breaking the rules is of suspect character and should almost never be allowed to stay.

If only immigrants who follow the rules and get the papers are allowed in and allowed to stay, a large population of ne'er-do-wells don't make it here to prey on the population.

The NYPD arrested five aliens in connection with that assault. According to records that the Judiciary Committee has received from the INS, four of those aliens entered the United States illegally. Three of those four had extensive arrest histories in New York City. The fifth alien, a lawful permanent resident, also had a criminal history prior to the December 19, 2002, attack.

The vast majority of misdemeanor border-crossers do not continue on to commit felonies.

Guess you don't believe Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, or Melanie Lefkowitz (newsday reporter being interviewed) either.

Do you think AP *doctored* this transcript 'just to further their agenda' ??

No mention that they are all illegal aliens.

A Google search yielded this letter from a group to Mayor Bloomberg that references the rapists as illegals, citing the NY Times as the source. Of course, articles from that time are part of the archives and not accessible merely by registration.

Below is the text of the letter:

----------

January 18, 2003

Mayor Michael Bloomberg
City Hall
New York, NY 10007

Mr. Mayor:

On December 19, five foreign nationals brutally gang-raped a mother of two during an hours-long ordeal near Shea Stadium. According to the New York Times, all of the suspects are illegal aliens, and sources are reporting that four of the five suspects have been previously in the custody of the New York City Police Department.

According to reports and interviews with law enforcement officers, aliens in police custody are, by policy or in practice, in contravention of Federal law, routinely released back into the general public rather than into custody of the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

In all likelihood, because of Executive Order 124, the City of New York's "sanctuary policy," many of the suspects in the Queens rape case, in addition to using law enforcement services, have also accessed other public and city services (e.g., health care services, housing services, or welfare services) in the City of New York.

Therefore, please be advised that Friends of Immigration Law Enforcement (FILE) is of the opinion that:

1. The City of New York and its agents are in likely violation of federal statutory law,
2. The City of New York and its agents are in likely violation of the U.S. Constitution,
3. The City of New York and its agents may face civil liability.

To remedy: the Mayor should rescind Executive Order 124 and establish appropriate mechanisms whereby city employees may avoid exposing themselves to criminal and civil sanctions. City agencies and employees must have the option to ascertain and report to the proper authorities the immigration status of those accessing public services-including law enforcement services.

Furthermore, simple concern for the good of the country, and the citizens of New York, should effect change in policy.

Craig Nelsen, director
Friends of Immigration Law Enforcement

Well, 3 percent of the population is committing 20 percent of the serious Federal crimes. That means that in a criminal alien—or I should say an illegal alien is about seven times more likely to commit a serious crime than the rest of the population.

Whew!

This is good news.

Now, they'll be able to take advantage of Bush's amnesty when he signs it and enjoy a long and fruitful life here in America.

Thank you, Jorge Bush and Vicente Fox!

Viva la Mexico!

The vast majority of misdemeanor border-crossers do not continue on to commit felonies.

Perhaps they do, perhaps they don't -- we can't know, as the vast majority of crimes aren't solved by police. What we do know is that illegals commit many more crimes than their share of the population.

And, as the story on this thread illustrates, many of those crimes are from repeat criminals that local or federal government officials release back into the public rather than expel. Thus those in power who keep covering up the illegal invasion also have blood-stained hands.

Shame on them. And shame on anyone who defends their perverse policies.
