This is what it takes to get in the papers. The proposal is disgusting. It's a sop to get contributions from the trial lawyers.

If it's going to be a fist fight...I'll put 20 on the jelly donuts.

Under Lieberman's plan, employees would pay about $1 per week into a program that would provide up to four weeks of leave at half pay.

What about the $550 a month I already pay in medical insurance or the $8,000 a year I pay in federal taxes or the $2400 I pay in property taxes. What about the Social Security and Medicare taxes or the state sales tax? Wow. Isn't he smart? He came up with another tax idea. Does anyone think this program would stay at $1 per week per employee? Let's see, an employer has 25 employees. That would be $1200 per year into this fund. How many of you think $1200 would cover the costs of providing this level of protection to employees? How many of you think $1200 would cover the Federal Paperwork involved in handling one claim?

He's going to p*ss off the cops with that one...

One time when I was a teenager, I was at my brother's house. We were watching a horror movie with one of my brother's buddies. They were both cops at the time. One of the characters got into trouble, of course, and my brother's friend, trying to be funny, said, "Where's a cop when you need one?" To which I replied "They're down the street at the donut shop" They both about fell out of their chairs laughing.

They'll get my doughnut when they pry it from my cold dead hands.

Doesn't the 2nd amendment preserve the right to bear claws?

Bush and the Republicans are in the pocket of the Big Doughnut Companies - Krispy Kreme and Drunken Doughnuts - who push their addictive products on the weakest among us - women, children, cops and Homer Simpson.

As consumers, before we buy products, it is a good thing to know something about the products. I don't mind at all that food is required to have nutritional information. This conservative does not see an erosion of the Constitution. For those who say that parents are responsible for their children, not the government, this will make it a little easier for them to make decisions for their children. I don't know that I like the idea of be a big neon warning, but I do like having the info.

Well formulated and presented response. Kudos for great common sense.

I don't mind the warnings, but what a platform for "the Conscience of the Senate"?? Oh, how the mighty have fallen. He sold his soul and he's having a very hard time getting it back.
