Conservatives want FDR to be replaced with Reagan on dimes
WASHINGTON (AP) Conservative Republicans angry over an unflattering television movie about Ronald Reagan want to put his image on the dime in place of Democratic icon Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Democrats are just as determined to keep FDR's profile in coin purses.

Thanks for the heads-up, I just voted to keep FDR. Only POTUS that are deceased should be on coinage, in my opinion.

Very sadly, considering the recent news on Reagan's health, he may ascend into heaven soon.

Once again our side is blowing it in terms of PR. We're going to appear mean spirited. FDR, Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington etc. deserve their spots on our currency. RR does too but bumping him makes us seem like fanatical ideologues who only like someone with an "R" in front of our names. The polarization of American politics continues..............

I'd like to see a Reagan
dollar with the look and feel of the British 1 pound sterling coin. He was a ten times better president than FDR so why not let that be reflected in the value. Let the democrats keep their lousy dime.
The problem with past attempts at a dollar coin is that they've been all but indistinguishable from a quarter! Make the sucker small but thick, soft to the touch and colored like gold, and I think we'd have a winner. Besides, I've seen it stated that if the dollar bill could be replaced by a usable and easily identifiable coin the treasury would save hundreds of millions a year, and somehow I think that idea would appeal to the Gipper.

I thought the individual featured on currency (and postage stamps) had to be deceased. In that case, why don't they wait to bring up this issue?
