In the wake of the news that his doctors' records have been subpoenaed, Rush Limbaugh' lawyer Roy Black just completed an interview on The Today Show with Lester Holt (sitting in for Matt Lauer).
The essence of Black's position is that of all the millions of people in the US who are addicted to prescription drugs, Rush is being singled out, not only by the press but more importantly by prosecutors who are engaging in an unprecedented investigation of his doctors' records.
Holt began by casting the situation in the worst light for Rush, alleging that "these are serious charges, going from one doctor to another, trying to get prescriptions."
Replied Black: "Since when do people have one doctor?"
Insisted Holt: "But it is a crime to go to multiple doctors to get multiple prescriptions."
Asked Holt: "Is Rush under investigation?"
Black: "They say they came across his name as part of a large investigation. And once his name turned up, elected official couldn't leave it alone. He is being treated differently."
Holt: "Is Rush being singled out?"
Black: "Of all the millions of people addicted to painkillers, have you ever seen their doctors being subpoenaed?"
Holt: "You say this is a fishing expedition, but the subpoena is specific."
Black: "Specific? Why do you mean it's not a fishing expedition, of course it is. They are asking his doctors for prescriptions, phone records, etc. Every doctor will have those. It is not specific at all."
Continued Black "They're trying to publicly embarrass him and ruin his radio program. He shouldn't be treated differently because he's Rush Limbaugh."
In a show of false concern, Holt inquired "How is Rush doing?"
Black essentially replied "How do you think he's doing? He's gone through five weeks of rehab, dealing with this difficult situation. He comes out, and all the TV and papers are talking about it, people [he specifically cited Holt's MSNBC] are leafing through his papers calling out the names of drugs, doctors, etc."
I think Martha Stewart's a victim and I don't particularly like her.
I think Tommy Chong was treated unfairly too.
I also think that was not her first offense.
DECEMBER 5--Rush Limbaugh illegally purchased hundreds of prescription pills a month and sought a quartet of doctors to fuel his drug addiction, according to search warrant applications unsealed yesterday in Palm Beach County Circuit Court.Investigators executing the searches, which took place November 25 at three offices used by Limbaugh's South Florida physicians, accused the radio personality of "doctor shopping," or improperly seeking out practitioners to supply him with an inordinate abundance of painkillers OxyContin, Lorcet, Norco, Hydrocodone and Kadian, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the cholesterol-lowering drug Niacin, and Clonodine, which treats high blood pressure. Under Florida law, doctor shopping is punishable by up to five years in prison.
The affidavits, one of which you'll find below, indicate that authorities began investigating the talk-show host last December after meeting with Wilma Cline, Limbaugh's former maid, and her husband, who told them that they sold Limbaugh "large quantities" of pharmaceutical drugs "over the course of many years." From an article previously posted in Free Republic quoting Rush Limbaugh:
"I was a drug addict from about 1996, 1995 or whatever, to just five weeks ago," he said.
Yes . . . . . . But that is true of all women.
Now I wonder if one of the reasons Bill Clinton kept his medical records a secret is because he has used painkiller drugs as well among other things? I often wonder how he was able to endure knee surgery without any sort of painkiller if we are to believe his so-called media hyped bravery?
You (george wythe) responded with a quote from Rush:"I was a drug addict from about 1996, 1995 or whatever, to just five weeks ago," he [Rush] said.
Thanks so much for clearing that up, George!
OK, I officially surrender. This exchange has hit bottom and we are now digging. We are going around in circles like the L1011 that spiraled into the everglades on auto pilot a few decades ago. (They made a TV movie about it in order to compound the tragedy). All I can say is that I'm done here. I do not want to be around when the ghost of Ernest Borgnine shows up (ie: when things get really ugly).
Be well guys!
Apparently, you don't take Rush at his word. I understand your concern, since drug addicts tend to be habitual liars. To: 70times7; VRWC_minionI don't know how long he has been addicted, so I would be grateful if you could tell meFrom an article previously posted in Free Republic quoting Rush Limbaugh:
