[history]
The word is getting around. Wendy Garcia, 19, is neither going to work nor going shopping on Friday, Dec. 12. Ditto for Ana Flores, 46, and Reynaldo Guzman, 32.
These Latino immigrants -- angered by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's repeal on Wednesday of the driver's license bill that would have given illegal immigrants the right to drive -- will participate in a planned "boycott": a one-day economic strike in which Latinos are encouraged to not go to work, school or buy anything.

Yeah, I think that they would have to refrain from doing everything you said in your post, because that is the definition of work to them

Then citizens and legal immigrants might get a taste of what it would be like in their towns without the illegal alien invasion. Great idea! It would be like a trip to the past, say 15 years ago, before the invasion got a foothold. Great day to go shopping.

Look what newspaper ran this article. The S.F.Chronicle - big surprise.
Well, they got 7 days to make this a big deal.
Wonder if they can find enough burros to get the word out.

She said with a shrug, "If Latinos don't help each other, who will?" They ought to help Latinos --- they should take a shopping trip down to Mexico and help those Latinos who badly need some customers. They should stay in their own country and improve their own living conditions and that of their fellow Latinos. Mooching off Americans isn't helping their fellow Latinos.

"This could very much shut down many businesses," said Nativo Lopez, Okay...so California's toilets don't get cleaned on one day....and some people might have to buy TV dinners instead of a Big Mac.
Doesn't sound like Califonia is going to sink in the ocean, Senorita Lopez.

I'm of the opinion that , let them stay home, let them boycott, let the businesses fail that hire them...

Why doesn't this lady just apply for citizenship? First let me welcome you and tell you, you are now part of the best place on the net -smiles-. The illegals want things 'handed' to them. They think we owe it to them. Besides going about immigration the legal way is just too much work. I read today England is contemplating their own laws of immigration, so you surely understand our problem.

This could backfire on them, when everyone finds out that we can get along just fine without the illegal Mexicans.
To: sarcasm
Can we have all the illegals also stop killing cops then running for sanctuary in Mexico or stealing from American's on this day as well?

As a Brit I'm very confused by this so please be patient with me. Why doesn't this lady just apply for citizenship? Because if she applies for citizenship at the INS (or whatever it is called now) then they'll find out she is here illegally and deport (chuckle) her to Mexico.
Actually, illegal aliens no longer fear deportation. In the 1980s, a common joke was "How do you clear out the kitchen in a restaurant?"...Answer: Yell "INS!"
Now these illegal aliens are bold and will even agree to be interviewed by reporters and grant the permission to print their real names in the article.
I know this is not much information, but it is a lot different than the illegal alien problems you all have with the pakis in Britain. They are seeking poltical asylum while illegal aliens here are seeking to Balkanize the entire Southwestern US.

"They get us to buy their products," said Garcia, strolling on Market Street on her day off. "They play our music. They tell us, 'You're an American, and you're a part of us, too.' But then something like this happens, and I try to make sense of it."
this statement is stupid... she ought to be embarrassed for making it... who tells an illegal, "you're an American, and you're a part of us..." and if "they play our music," what does that have to do with giving an illegal immmigrant the right to have a valid driver's license? if "they play our music," then they must have paid for it to begin with... what's not to make sense of?
p.s.--this Latina will be shopping that day... so will most others... just because 1 in 3 may be Latino, does not mean 1 in 3 agree with the boycott or the license issue in the first place...

US is not particularly kind to the British and those coming from Commonwealth countries.Maybe because they mostly speak English.

Yeah I guess. I suppose they like spending tax payer money printing forms in two, three, four different languages.

I know we've discussed legal immigration before and I'm for reducing it. I'd let english speakers in first (as long as they have no criminal records, diseases, and have some skills or money). This would eliminate alot of cost and problems.
I think language is one of the things that help kept this country together.

I think there should be one administrative language, and that's english. It would save a lot of time and MONEY. I'm all for tightening restrictions on legal immigration but they have them already. I know that because of what my friend goes through, and my own family. INS needs to be gutted and rebuilt from the bottom up. It's really overwhelmed.

let them stay home,But that's the catch --- "home" is in Mexico --- so I'm sticking with my suggesting ---- they ought to pack up and go home, shop and work in Mexico if they think shopping and working helps their fellow Latinos. Do something for their Latino country. Fix it.
