Video Captures Canine Seeking Shelter Inside Family Car

Members of the Leroy family in Washington thought they were the target of a prankster when they kept finding a stray dog inside their parked car.

Intent on catching the culprit, they set up a video camera to record the vehicle.

However, they were surprised at what they caught on film.

The video captured the dog as she opened the car door on her own and climbed inside.

The family is now circulating posters of the dog and has contacted the local Humane Society.

So far, no one has claimed the canine.

There's a Far Side cartoon in this somewhere. Maybe the dog is a fan of Gary Larson.

If I was that dog's owner, I would name him 'Door-Opening Dog'.

Smart dog. If he's that smart, maybe they could disguise him as a lion so Siegfried & Roy can use him in their act.

Guess the car owners never thought of locking the car doors. It's not a bad habit to get into. I had to lock my car because of my job...it was required because I worked at a state prison, which also happened to be on the same grounds as a psychiatric hospital. The habit got to be a regular part of my life since security was always first and foremost in my mind. You just never know when a drunk or homeless person is going to use your car as a hotel for the night. No sense in having any surprises when you go out in the morning...or night.

The dog was probably a carlin pinscher, or a caravan Hound, or a carolina dog, or a carpathian sheepdog.

I figured it was just another bitch waiting for Bill to show up. You know, astroturf on the back seat and all. I know, I know, but you have to admit she's better looking than some he's dallied with....

This is my favorite pic from the sequence:

"Ah . . . hi. You mean this isn't the Doggie Motel?"

GMTA!

The expression on that dog's face is priceless. It's the same look my Lab gives me when I catch her nibbling on the cats' food or rummaging through the kitchen garbage.
