The battle flag (which wasn't the official flag of the CSA) has represented the threat of repeated insurrection against an oppressive government, not a symbol of oppression against non-Caucasions. If Jesse Jackson started using rainbows as a symbol to help him shake money out of organizations that should know better than to listen to him (NASCAR), should I forever more associate rainbows with blackmail? That the Kluxers chose the battle flag as a symbol does not turn it into a symbol of racism when hundreds of thousands of good men perished under it for sovereignty and representation issues. Nine out of ten dead Confederates would agree.
Should we hold the ancient North Americans liable for coming up with the swastika symbol after the Nazis turned it around and used it?
