The world needs more journalists like Burns. I hesitate to even use the term "journalist" any more because it has been so tainted lately, and it's not a good enough word to describe Burns. HE is what the founders had in mind when they wrote of a free press.

Burns interviewed three men in Amiriya, Iraq, a Sunni town outside Baghdad. Burns noted: "If any village in Iraq should be Saddam country" its Amiriya.
Burns, however, opened his report with a reminder of a much more pertinent "locale," the lingering Hell created by decades of Saddamite terror. The Iraqis human walls of careful habits built to survive Baathist oppression are barriers to any genuine political conversation.
...The Amiriyis kicked off with praise for Saddam and diss for America. Saddam was "our king" and will toss the Americans out, etc.
So Burns asked the men if mass graves containing Saddams Iraqi victims are American lies?

Using pure logic will win them over eventually.

In a gausthaus a day before I returned to the States he asked me "How do you do it?" How does America continue to succeed and we Arabs fail? My reply: "You must first off your autocrats."
"But we cannot do that," Samir said, a sad fear jeweling his eyes.
Fear. That's the dictator real power. A point does (or should) come when people realise that they are many and the "leaders" are few, at that point Ceaucescu dies.
That's why what we are doing in Iraq is so important, show the popel of the middle east that Ceaucescu is powerless and can be killed.
