Defence Minister Henk Kamp intends to send 70 commandos to Iraq by next weekend at the latest. The minister does not want to wait until parliament has approved their deployment because of the seriousness of the situation in Iraq.
The commandos will be deployed to track down terrorists in southern Iraq, where 1,100 Dutch troops are stationed. Mr Kamp says the commandos are almost ready for departure.
Today, MPs submit written questions to the minister regarding extending of the mission in Iraq, which will be debated next week. The opposition parties believe the minister should wait for the outcome of the debate.

Ping for our Dutch allies, even though every senior DoD official disagrees (in public) about the seriousness of the situation in Iraq.

You know, all the civilized and emotional arguments aside. Iraq once again proves itself to be a fine place for different special units and weapons systems to test themselves. I know a lot of people hate to think about it in those terms but it's true. There is no substitute for the actual environment...

Bravo for one of my "old countries," one of many since I'm a typical American mongrel. I hear these guys are tough stuff, and I'm glad they're coming along.

Hey, Knighthawk, anybody- does the forum look weird? Is there something different about the replies? I keep rubbing my eyes. There's something different...

Thanks for the ping. I'm so confused. I thought I'd heard the nine dwarfs[dwarves] accuse President Bush of fighting this war unilaterally.
Bump for the Dutch.
