I say that, because he has the same habit of doubling and tripling the ink on letters as the anthrax letter-writer does and there is no explicable reason- the pen is working fine and letters don't need to be re-inked. Emphasis? Code? Strange.

Malvo also uses noticably different writing styles, often on the same drawing.

I have to wonder if their financial source could also give them more than just money to slip into the states.

Is there any known connection to these two and a guy named Nizar Trablisi?

Trablisi was involved in a diamond heist for al Qaeda which provided them with a lot of cash. Trablisi also came out with the assertion that al Qaeda trained 3-man sniper teams. Trablisi was caught in Europe trying to plot attacks on the US embassy in Paris and the Feds apparently talked with him during the sniper investigation.
