Help! I've got liberal cretins asserting that the US, by far, gave more aid and weapons to Saddam Hussein than any other country, including the Soviet Union.
I know this isn't true. I've seen a chart, somewhere, showing the top twenty or so donors/sellers to Iraq, and the US was at number eight or something like that.
Can anyone help me out here? I've searched and searched and I can't find this chart, or the article containing it.
I call upon the collective memory of Free Republic to help a conservative win an argument!
Thanks, and sorry for the vanity.

Graphic and post inside:
update: Given the amount of email Ive received on this post, Ive updated the picture to more clearly show that the data only goes to 1990. This is why you may see news information about weapons provided by firms from other countries (e.g., Jordan, Germany, etc.) that is not captured here. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) only felt confident in their information up to 1990. After Saddam invaded Kuwait, any and all arm trades to Iraq would be a violation of the United Nation sanctions. Obviously, these sellers did everything possible to hide these sales and SIPRI certainly does not have all of this information.
In addition, SIPRI does not try to show which weapons are more effective. SIPRI calculated the dollar amount of all weapon transfers (in 1990 dollars). So in terms of dollar value, Russia was responsible for 57% of all weapon sales to Iraq between 1973 and 1990.

Who cares? We donated to Hussein back when he was the lesser of two evils.

You might point out, also, that you never seem to hear about all the US tanks and APCs that we blew up in either Gulf War...they always seem to be T-72s or whatever.

Show them pics of the armor and small arms used by the Iraqis. It's all Russian armor, French aircraft and AKs.

We only would have given him arms during the Iran-Iraq War, when we understandably concerned about the rogue ayatollahs with their animus against the "Great Satan".

Let us know later on this thread how those liberals take that chart deport posted.

The best riposte to liberal stupidity is a knuckle sandwich. Serve up one of those and they'll leave you alone after chowing down on it, I guarantee you. But if you're worried about covering your tracks and hiding all the forensic evidence, hit 'em with this:
Who Armed Iraq? Myth vs. Fact :-)

AK-47s & RPG-7s are not American made small arms. They're principally Russian.

Looks like you have the facts you need. But, you might also point out that Bush's recent speech (I believe while he was in England) actually addressed the past practice of forging foreign policy based on the lesser of two evils. He denounced the practice. Of course in the hate Bush world they cannot take the time to read or listen to his speeches. Too bad for them, they are full of tough stances and challenges that will make them significant for years and years to come.

Having seen them myself I can assure you they were T-72's, BMP's, BTR's and old T-55 tanks.... I did not see any old AAV's, LAV's or M60 tanks.
Sorry

W-88: Deport's "update" at the end of his post with the chart indicates that the USA's share of arms, etc. sold to Iraq is even less than the 1% involved through 1990, because, AFTER 1990, one can bet that we sold NO such materials to Iraq ... !

The forum at
http://www.protestwarrior.com/ actually had a post that listed the supposed "Biological and WMDs" that the US sold Iraq in the 80s. They were chemicals for fertilizers and the rest, not directly for Biological weapons. Of course, the truth will not matter to the Dims and Liberals...
There was this chart that is shown above plus a host of other interesting facts and information but for the life of me havent found it yet...

My point precisely, 'cause there weren't any. I think all we sold them were some choppers and a bit of technology, and helped them w/intel during the war w/ Iran.
