Please, don't post anything from Debka.

Agreed. As long as you don't post anything further to Free Republic.

How well does the Stryker handle mines? BTR-80 ...

To be sure, those Russian troops are not sitting on top of their armored transport in their best winter duds for the fresh air and the view.

*!!!!*

Ouch.
Every other kilometer marker, oh that's evil.
Guy I spoke to talked about coming from an SP unit, seems everyone dozed off at the wheel, and missed a turn.
The leading vehicle of one of the gun sections stops short and gets rear ended by it's own ammo vehicle because it's driver is in a sleeping zombie daze.

That's pretty close to the term the Germans used for him [and me] when they found out about it. Though I don't believe it translates precisely. His parents, or lack thereof, was also mentioned.

But you know what I got to tell them when asked why I'd done such a terribly antisocial thing? Befehl ist befehl! [Orders is orders...]

I'd always wanted to throw that back in some officious German civil servant's face...and thanks to the good LTC, I got that chance. He was a hell of a fine officer to work for.

He died in Vietnam, not from hostile fire, but from a heart attack, possibly brought on by heat exhaustion. A tanker's life is not an easy one, nor often, a long one.

Visit Beautiful Grozney! Meet the quaint Chechnyan native people, and kill them like pigs.

Orders are orders..
Oh that is cold.

Heat casualty heart attack.
That's not a pleasant way to go, regardless of where one is.
Had a guy in my artillery unit do a heat induced heart attack.
The Cap we had at the time refused to call a medevac for some reason known only to him.
The Xo went over his head and made the call.
The soldier we had down lived, but he (and the rest of us) never could forgive the Cap for being such an irresponsible ***.

Saw a shirt once that read:

Join the Army!
See: Exotic new places
Meet: Exotic new people
And hunt them down and kill them.
Friend of mine was thrown out of a church for that one..

I know. If you told me you'd have to kill me.

Naw, just break fingers and cut out your tongue so you could not communicate.

IMHO FCS is taking on a life of it's own and will be self sustaining for years to come. The way it is being developed with the LSI concept reminds me of the blind men describing an elephant and then trying to make some sense out of all of that.

The Abrams WILL be around until at least 2025 in some form.

The indirect fire platforms of all types have some serious problems. Missiles in a box sounds neat, but in reality it just doesn't work like planned. The Crusader might even come back, maybe not as originally designed, but something that will fill the gap between mortars and MLRS/ATACMS. IMHO the Army put too much faith into missiles and not tube artillery and are now paying the price for doing so.

As I glean more information I will try to post it if relevant.
