Merde reports: Rank and hateful anti-Americanism is now standard fare in French mass media. Paris Match trumpets 'Iraq: Exclusive, Our reporters were with the rebel commandos who hit the DHL cargo plane. They fired missles at the Airbus'. A slideshow is proudly displayed on their website and the images have been showcased on nightly news shows. French journalists lead the resistance against nasty American GIs!

From the French paper: "De notre envoyee special Claudine Vernier Palliz C'est L'aube et L'houre de la premiere priere. Les dix hommes couchent leurs armes sur le sol et se preostement vers la mecque. Trois voitures les attendent. ....etc.

Alas, I can't translate French, and the paper is in Flash, so I don't know how to paste the photos, if some nice freeper would do it for me...

If the reporter was there, isn't that being compliant in a crime? And doesn't DHL ship to France, and Wouldn't DHL be able to sue this French newspaper for the crime of attacking it's airplane?

Should Freepers write DHL and tell them about it?

I am flabbergasted and flummoxed. France needs to respond to this and investigate with alacrity. If this is true, there should be a huge flap with consequences.

I have not doubt DHL ships to France. I also know that Airbus planes are of (at least partly) French manufacture.

As Bob Dole asked: Where's the outrage?

These are not journalists, they are either participants in a civil criminal act of terrorism or are propoganda officers assigned to an enemy combat unit.

Gitmo, POW camp, or civil trial would be appropriate, IMHO.

If this post is accurate (which remains to be seen) then European laws are clearly broken also. DHL is European.

History of DHL (from its website):

Danzas was formed in 1815. After having fought for Napoleon at Waterloo, Louis Danzas joined the transport company Michel l'Eveque in St-Louis. In 1840, Louis Danzas became joint proprietor of the company, and in 1846 Danzas & l'Eveque were entrusted with transporting mail from le Havre to New York. In the following year, they made their first acquisition, and in 1854, the first branch in Switzerland opened, in Basel.

In 1920, the company was one of the first to embrace air transport, and started to use air freight between France and England.

In 1939, Danzas travel agencies in France and Italy organised the emigration of (mainly Jewish) refugees from Nazi Germany. In 1962, the company opened its own freight terminal in Paris. In 1993, the disappearance of customs barriers within the European Union affected sales, and the company took action to modernise itself.

In 2000, the merger between Danzas Intercontinental and Air Express International Corporation made the group worldwide number one in air freight and one of the five leaders in ocean freight, operating in 150 countries.

By the time of 2003's merger with DHL Worldwide Express and Deutsche Post Euro Express, Danzas was the world's leading provider of IT-supported logistics solutions covering worldwide air and ocean freight, global project forwarding, European overland transport, e-business and 4th party logistics.

Deutsche Post Euro Express: Euro Express was set up by Deutsche Post in 1998 as a parcel and distribution network for Germany and Europe. By the time of 2003's merger with DHL Worldwide Express and Danzas, it provided a road-based service through an extensive and reliable European road network for both business and private customers.

The modern day French all have grandfathers that said "Fraulein!" to their grandmothers.

They should sue the reporter, they should sue the magazine. Deeper pockets. And discovery might be a hoot.

Though it would be convenient to think that the French were along for the rid on this one, it does not appear to be so.

The Associated Press
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A homemade videotape given to a French journalist showed a man firing a surface-to-air missile at a DHL cargo plane, moments after a U.S. helicopter flew overhead - apparently without noticing him.

Thanks for the link! But since it's an AP report you'll understand why I take it with a leviathan-sized grain of salt :)

The US military should clandestinely tag suspect journalists in Iraq, so they can trace them with the latest tracking technology. If and when there is an attack - they may be able to locate them and the attackers. If so - a Hellfire missile should be launched on that tag. War is Hell - and traitors, hot after a story, belong there...

I would opt for the 'shot while trying to escape' scenario.

Infuriating. France should be on the "axis of evil" list along with all the other terrorist nations.
