New Yorkers feel snubbed by Republicans' party plans
By David Usborne in New York
03 December 2003
The goodwill that Republican leaders generated when they decided to stage their 2004 party convention in New York City is about to go glug-glug to the bottom of the Hudson River. New Yorkers are upset that Tom DeLay, the majority leader in the House of Representatives, is said to want to charter a cruise ship for the event to accommodate Republican members of Congress and their guest list of lobbyists and donors.
The ship in question would be the Norwegian Dawn, operated by Norwegian Cruise Lines, with 13 restaurants, a casino and numerous bars and clubs. The cabins are more luxurious and expensive than hotel rooms in the city.
The plan would deny the New York economy an infusion of millions of dollars. Among those protesting are the main city unions, who are threatening to strike during the week of the convention if the cruise ship plan goes ahead.

The plan would deny the New York economy an infusion of millions of dollars. This was a bad idea to begin with.
When are we going to learn? This would have given ton's of fuel to the leftists.
If anyone should be promoting "Buy USA" at this time, it should be us.
Like my father once said to me in a very kind and loving, way, I would also ask Mr. Delay:
WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!!!!!

New York City as the convention site was a bad idea to begin with (and I love NYC).

who would want to eat on a cruise ship every night in the midst of a city with the best and most diverse restaurants in the world?

The cabins are more luxurious and expensive than hotel rooms in the city. I doubt this. Most cruise line rooms (exclusive of suites, of which there are very few) are smaller than rooms at the Plaza or the Ritz-Carlton, and at least $100 a day cheaper, even with the meals paid for.
The biggest whining is coming from the labor unionists, who would find it harder to protest outside a pier, and from those who expected a tax windfall from the exorbitant hotel tax.

They should hold the convention someplace that appreciates Republicans. New York does not. Why hold it in the inner sanctum of Hitlery and Schumer?

Bad plan. All major Republicans in one place is bad enough but on a ship which is already an inviting target ?
I question NYC in the first place if for none other than safety reasons.
But maybe it is being done to upstage Queen Hillary again.

I don't know about the Dawn, but most of the cruise ships hold less than 3,000 passengers. And a lot of them are in inside small cabins - that's no windows and many narrow corridors away from one.
I really can't imagine that this ship would take many big spenders out of the NY economy.

seems to me,i remember reading that it had to do with the no smoking law!!!
