I'm just glad it's cold around here today. Keeps a lot of folks off the streets....

The bruises found on the calf, thigh and buttocks of Jones' right side - presumably caused by the repeated blows from police officers' batons - show no evidence of causing damage to Jones' internal organs, the coroner's preliminary report said.
I've been trained and certified in the use of the PR-24 ( what the news source is calling the "officers' batons"). I've seen the video and have to tell you I don't know what the he11 those officers were thinking. It's the most unprofessional use of the PR-24 I've ever seen and is the most likely cause of the suspect's death.
Had the PR-24 been used properly (I can only assume the officers weren't trained) the suspect could have been successfully disabled with nothing more than a few bruises.
I'm not suggesting they did it on purpose, it just looks like they were given a piece of equipment without being told how to properly use it.
I'm very pro-cop but I have to side with the critics in this case.

"Assault on Police Officer" case would be a more appropriate title.

Always remember that "drugs are victimless." This story and many others I have personally known gives lie to that. Without drugs this 400 pound man would be either peacefully in jail or possibly never have committed a crime. I have seen with my own eyes PCP cause someone to break handcuffs and try to lash out at nurses and others who were trying to help him. (in an emergency room setting) It took four very big cops to hold him down and he was not a big man (5'8" about 170-180). The libertarians and others who are in favor of legalizing these terrible drugs have no idea the unintended consequences they would reap.

As the Ex-Police on the old SNL would say, "another drug-related death."

I think the officers exhibited an admirable degree of restraint in not simply shooting the @sswipe.

So far, the City Administration is acting a bit better than in their pathetic performance in April, 2001. (

The widely played videotape showed Nathaniel Jones lunging at police officers and hitting them as they ordered him to stop. Is there an explanation as to why he lunged at the police?
