A part-time Newsday sports reporter, David Abramowicz, told police he was hit with a wrench, punched and kicked last night in what appears to be a planned attack by two teenagers at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa.
Abramowicz, who had covered the Massapequa boys' high school soccer season and the state tournament, was planning to meet an anonymous caller at the park at 8 p.m., said his editor, Eve Sarris.

(Long Island-WABC, December 1, 2003) A reporter for Newsday is recovering from a beating on Long Island.
He was working on a story about drugs at Massapequa High School.David Abramowicz says he got a phone tip about the use of supplemental drugs by members of the Massapequa boys soccer team.
Last night, Abramowicz met with two teenagers at John Burns Park.
But they turned on him by beating and kicking the reporter before running off. So far, there are no arrests in the case.
Newsday reporter David Abramowicz recognized the voice of a teenager he met at a park in Massapequa Sunday as that of the anonymous tipster who had called him a few times and claimed members of the Massapequa High School boys' soccer team used steroids.Minutes after the teen lured Abramowicz to an out-of-the-way part of the park, the reporter was assaulted by him and one other male teenager, Abramowicz and police said.
