The things would go off under water and produce a mound of water ten feet high like a WWII depth charge. We went to an elite country club that had a pond and tried them. The gamekeeper came down in tears. We had depth-charged his stock of fish that had taken years to grow.

Yeah, it was cool. When we could get them and we couldn't get our hands on my father's fishing gear (an old crank telephone) we went fishing with 'em..if we could find an old boat.
(Note to PETA types. The number of times I did either is highly exaggerated by time deranged memories of my youth, most times we used a pole, worms and sharp, sharp hooks that we stuck in their sensitive mouth, taking glee in their cries of pain before we cut their heads off, gutted and scaled them, battered them in corn meal, fried them in bacon fat and ate them as fast as we could catch them).
Damn, I was a lucky kid.
