In 2000 George W. Bush campaigned across the country telling voters: "My opponent trusts government. I trust you."

Little wonder that some of his supporters are now wondering which candidate won that election.

Federal spending has increased by 23.7 percent since Bush took office. Education has been further federalized in the No Child Left Behind Act. Bush pulled out all the stops to get Republicans in Congress to create the biggest new entitlement program -- prescription drug coverage under Medicare -- in 40 years.

All the increases in the Federal Government under Bush can be undone if he gets re-elected, gets 60 votes in the Senate, and keeps the majority in the House. We need those 60 votes so that Bush nominees to the courts can't be fillibustered.

President George W. Bush has systematically continued the destruction of the Democrat party that was begun under Xlintoon, and will be completed by Howard Dean. This is a strategery, and we should stay the course.

We can all be Libertarians, again, after we have control of the government, sufficient take the courts back from the Liberals.

Yeah, well. Some of us were wary just what the hell "Compassionate Conservatism" was. Now we know. It's a Liberal pig with lipstick.

(sigh) There are those who think President Bush was able to "steal an issue" from the RATS.

Suckerrrrrrrrs! This is just the beginning. RATS will hammer Republicans for decades in an effort to complete the socialization of our medical system.

President Bush has done a great job fighting our foreign enemies. His fight against domestic enemies has been anemic.

Of course, all anyone has to say is, "What? You think we'd be better off if Al Gore won? HUH? Well, would you? HUH? HUH?"

I hate those people.

It was either this or worse if the Goron was elected. Either way, true conservatives were doomed from day one. There is no true conservativism left in America.

maybe not. A Liberal President and a Republican congress would not have passed such a program?

"No Child Left Behind" is code for "All Children Left Behind," gearing education to the lowest denominator not the highest aspirations. Ask any teacher. Belay that. Ask any honest teacher.

Opinions of teachers don't matter-we all know they are unqualified socialists anyway. (pre-emptive sarcasm)

Oh, so that's the plan? We need to just elect more Republicans so that they can turn back the tide of government? I thought that's what 'winning back the Senate' was all about in 2002. Silly me...

There is no true conservativism left in America.

That's close to my contention that there is no such thing as a true conservative.

I think it's a matter of political capital. Bush has one focus, the War on Terror. Just look at the resistance he's getting from the two groups that would most like to see America fail, the Democrats and the French. He's using every scrap of his political capital on the most important endeavor that any president could have after 9/11. Fighting the dems over a farm bill, or education, or even this miserable Medicare upgrade, would take energy from what he sees as his prime duty. It's painful, but the guy sure knows how to stay focused on what's important.

So do you think the country would be better off with a Dem as president? This is a serious question.

We both live in a fantasy world-what I hope would happen never will and the current policy you advocate will never work.

Bush TOLD you he was going to do this BEFORE we elected him. Why everyone is acting so shocked just amazes me. He also told us WHY he was doing it. Something had to be done about medicare and this is the first step, it will make the other steps that are necessary less "scary".
