LONDON (Reuters) - At least four and possibly as many as eight members of a Spanish intelligence team were killed on Saturday in an attack on their convoy south of Baghdad, a reporter from Britain's Sky News television said.
David Bowden said in a report from Baghdad after returning from the scene that he saw four bodies and that locals said eight were killed in total and another two people taken prisoner. Spanish officials said in Madrid an eight-strong team had been attacked and it was unclear how many were hurt.
"We were actually driving from the town of Hilla, which is just south of Baghdad, and we saw these men lying dead on the floor (ground) by the side of the road after the ambush," Bowden said.
"We were told by locals there that...about 30 minutes before they'd attacked a convoy of three vehicles. They pulled the people out of the vehicles. They told us that in fact they'd killed eight people and they'd captured two others.
"I only saw with my own eyes four dead bodies on the road.
"We filmed for a couple of minutes and then we became the focus of the mob's attention. They were shouting praise to Saddam (Hussein) and we disappeared pretty quickly."

The CID! EL CID is going to shoot their arsess off! Spainards are like the Ghurkas; now you have really got something to worry about!I was thinking along the same lines. Anyone who knows Spanish history, or even European history, knows that there's no love lost when it comes to Spanish feelings toward the Moors (and visa versa)

So you have a Clintonian approach to national defense-pull down your pants, bend over and take it up the old chocolate chute?

If "we" send this medieval character in (Charles Martel?) does that mean we can bring the troops home and use them for national defense rather than a futile nation building crusade? No, Hillary, we cannot.

Many people in America at the end of WWII thought that it would be impossible to create a functional democracy in Japan. Part of the reason for that (and for the failure of the earlier democracy effort) was that the Japanese people had never really valued individualism. In fact, it was seen as an evil.
In spite of that, we were able to accomplish it, although it necessarily required the Emperor to publicly renounce his divinity.

Does anybody else believe that the televised celebrations after such attacks MUST be attacked? We can't afford to send the message that it is more dangerous to support the coalition than oppose it. It can't succeed unless the Iraqis have incentives to aid the coalition.
Where on Earth are the Hellfire missiles? Drones should be over the heads of these bands of terrorist thugs and the thugs should be taken out. Do you want to send a message to the muslim world? Bomb the Hell out of the SOBs when they are on top of the bodies and mugging for the camera. Spare the Al Jazeera crew so they can send the tape to the networks. I think we need to show the bastards that they are not untouchable, we need to show them and their wannabes that they can be victims, they can be humiliated, they can be killed on our terms.
The Russian response was brilliant in the theater terror situation. They knocked the terrorists back on their heels and killed them before they were ready to die. We need to operate under the same principle.
God Bless Our Troops. May the policy makers learnt to understand and defeat our enemies. Lord, give us the will to do what we must. Lord, give us the sense and courage to bring the fight to the enemy in ways they can't anticipate or survive.

I tend to have more in common with Americans who can argue a point beyond resorting to the poop chute closer.

Fears of islamic armies are not paranoia, they are fact.
Please check a newspaper from Sept. 12, 2001 to see what a small unit is capable of.
I would contend that these and other attacks on Americans were in large part the end result of a decade of weakness and indescision by our government with regard to militant islam.
Regarding Islam as compatible with modernity, ....we'll you may have a point. Fundemental Islam isn't compatible with the 21st century. Luckily, most muslims don't actually pay attention to the Koran. (Not unlike many self-professed Christians)They want to work, make some money, and spend it on their kids.
It's the MINO's (Muslims in Name Only) we need to reach out to. Most can accomodate modernity with a watered down version of Islam. Other nations have tried this, some more successful than others.
We can't change the fundies...we can only kill them. In the process, we have to present an alternative to the non-fundies. Merely running away and saying "Good Luck" to the more progressive forces in the middle east simply won't cut it.

I've seen people who hold multiple degrees who do not have any common sense. Take your SAT's and well, I guess we've already covered that subject.

So we intend to teach Muslims that the only way they can be good people is to be bad Muslims? Good luck, "Great Satan"
I know all about Islamic armies. While the American military was helping Islamic armies in the Balkans I was oppossing them. Those Islamic armies were losing until America gave them arms, and training and a NATO airforce.
If an Islamic army gets to Boston, bet your bottom dollar that they were allowed in.

At least six members of a Spanish intelligence team have been killed in an ambush south of Baghdad, the Spanish Defence Ministry says.
A journalist who passed the scene said he saw bodies lying in the road and two vehicles ablaze.
The eight-member team came under attack near the town of Hilla, as their convoy returned from a mission.
