At Least Four Dead in Iraq Attack on Spaniards
Reuters to My Yahoo! ^ | Nov. 29, 2003 | Anon

LONDON (Reuters) - At least four and possibly as many as eight members of a Spanish intelligence team were killed on Saturday in an attack on their convoy south of Baghdad, a reporter from Britain's Sky News television said.

David Bowden said in a report from Baghdad after returning from the scene that he saw four bodies and that locals said eight were killed in total and another two people taken prisoner. Spanish officials said in Madrid an eight-strong team had been attacked and it was unclear how many were hurt.

"We were actually driving from the town of Hilla, which is just south of Baghdad, and we saw these men lying dead on the floor (ground) by the side of the road after the ambush," Bowden said.

"We were told by locals there that...about 30 minutes before they'd attacked a convoy of three vehicles. They pulled the people out of the vehicles. They told us that in fact they'd killed eight people and they'd captured two others.

"I only saw with my own eyes four dead bodies on the road.

"We filmed for a couple of minutes and then we became the focus of the mob's attention. They were shouting praise to Saddam (Hussein) and we disappeared pretty quickly."

Actually this neo-con plan of world revolution is Trotsykite in origin. Stalinist would be that you would occupy and convert people to your way of thought.

Wrong. The Stalinist way of doing things involves indiscriminate killings and keeping everyone poor as mice. As well as isolation from basic nesessities. On the other hand ocupying and changing unfriendly nations is as old as the world. And I never said "convert".

I want to isolate and not deal with them. Let their own system drag them down.

And it will... along with you. Because there is no such thing as "isolation". Try to understand it. Yes, I have to speak in riddles here. Can't help you more...

Err....Hillary is your ally not mine. She wants to send *more* troops in to this sewer, like you apparently. Face it.

Islam has been in conflict with the West since the Moors invaded France in the 8th century.

I don't dispute that and never have.

There ain't no sign of changing it yet. In fact, Islam is becoming more fundamentalist, not less.

Well, it's a CHAGE. So they CAN change. If they turn around - fine. If not - it's never late to obliterate them. Exactly what I said.

Your starry-eyed optimism is wildly misplaced.

Refusing to be intimidated by these idiots is not optimism, it's common sense. The slow and steady wins the race. Just pray for Bush to win the presidency. There is no beter (and realistic) policy at this time.

Clintonian approach? Naw....that's *your* approach. Hillary after all is on your side and has consistently supported this Wilsonian war. Heck, she even wants to send *more* troops into this sewer. How does it feel being on Hillary's side? Deal with it because that is the hard truth.

Hey "Captain Kirk" (that's a joke)

I never said anything about sending more troops in. That was something you dreamed up.

It must gall you that an entire nation is free from being brutalized by a dictator.

You mean American policy that advocates economic and political isolation towards communist Cuba is Stalinist?

What's wrong with you? I listed much more than a trade embargo for that. Iraq has been under hevier embargo, but it is imposible to enforce, not to speak about Iraq having nothing to live on but oil. At the end UN was getting rich. We should bring change to the Arab world, Iraq is a good starting point. There is no other realistic alternative. The campaign is just firm enough, should not be softer, should not much hevier - for now.

like it matters, but he called me stupid before i called him a anti-semitic, Buchananite and a democrat. plus his post #59 is crap.it's isolationist at best(Buchanan) and in his statement ...."I want to teach the Arabs nothing. I want not to help them or to feed them. Starve them to death for all I care". proof of the (anti-semite) statement. as for the democrat part , thats just an educated guess....and you are entitled to your opinion. many democrats consider themselves informed and thoughtful.i think they are wrong.

I saw these videos on Fox. The faces are clear enough that the authorities shouldn't have any trouble tracking down these murderers and/or celebrants. These criminals will soon learn what the Rule of Law means.

I hope so. I'm sure inside info contributed to this, btw. Otherwise, how could they be so accurate in attacking people travelling in unmarked vehicles?

Here's some more info on the attack on the Spaniards:

In your fantasy world just how is the UN getting rich of Iraq when the UN has no income beyond what member nations contribute (and the USA being the largest constributor and a delinquent one at that)?

In fact there have been many editorials done to indicate that the reason the Middle East did not develop a democracy after Western colonialization was that its dictators relied just on oil income thus allowing them to continue their despotry without a care for their people. So breaking off all trade all contact with those Muslim nations may do them some good as well as do us some good by weakening a civilization which exists to destroy mine, and says so explicitly as part of its canons.

Wrong. UN managed the "Food for Oil" program and a lot of breaucrats got rich in the process. The fact that UN consumes always much more than it has, is another topic entirely.

So breaking off all trade all contact with those Muslim nations may do them some good as well as do us some good by weakening a civilization which exists to destroy mine, and says so explicitly as part of its canons.

Their civilization is strong in your fantasy only. If they manage to damage you, it's because of your weakness not because of their power. Besides this is not the main battlefield. The real war is within. Escalating this will finish off the Muslim world, but it doesn't matter much at the end. You have no idea what we are dealing with.

I want to finish off the Muslim world too. You want to do it with military occupations-I just want to isolate them.

I don't want to finish them them off. I said that even if this is done it does not resolve the main problem. They need to be liberated and tought a better way of life.

We both live in a fantasy world-what I hope would happen never will and the current policy you advocate will never work.

"Damn right I am an elitist-that is what a classic conservative is."

No. An elitist is actually the definition of a classic liberal. Classic liberals believe that they are better than others. A classic conservative believes that all can achieve if they work hard enough for it.

Not always. The best get what they have worked for. Not everyone works for money.
