Syrian PM Criticizes U.S. in Iraq
Saturday November 29, 2003 4:31 AM
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Syria's prime minister has criticized the U.S. presence in Iraq and labeled the anti-U.S. fight inside the Mideast nation a ``liberation movement.''
``Despite all accusations that they are terrorists, these are Iraqi citizens who are fighting the occupation,'' Prime Minister Naji al-Otari said in remarks were published Friday in the Egyptian magazine Al-Mussawar.
He also vowed Syria would never endorse the U.S. actions in Iraq, and he dismissed the threat of sanctions. Congress approved a measure enabling the president to impose economic sanctions on Syria unless it ceases its alleged support to, among other things, anti-U.S. fighters in Iraq.
Al-Otari said that any sanctions would have only a ``very modest'' affect because Syria has minimal economic ties with America.
The prime minister indicated he saw the bill as part of the pressure that Syria has encountered because of its staunch opposition to the U.S. occupation of Iraq, and its different definition of terrorism to that of Washington.
The U.S. State Department has long listed Syria as a sponsor of terrorism owing to its support for militant Palestinian groups. Syria categorizes these Palestinians as freedom fighters. In the interview, al-Otari said Syria would continue to give ``moral support'' to the Palestinians.

Dollars to donuts, before this whole war on terrorism is over, Syria is going to rise to the forefront.
I am willing to bet that this is the country where the WMD ended up.

Since the lying Syrians believe the terrorists in Iraq, are all Iraqi citizens, fighting a "war of liberation"....,
they will have no comlaint if we immediatly shoot all the Syrians caught in Iraq with weapons or explosives......
Huh?

"I am willing to bet that this is the country where the WMD ended up." Yup, and they're probably trying to figure out how to get them here without getting caught.

Yup, and they're probably trying to figure out how to get them here without getting caught. And that's probably why this guy is so cheeky in his remarks - they have figured the way.

that's probably why this guy is so cheeky in his remarks More likely he, like the rest of the rags, haven't figured out yet that
President Bush was really serious about the WOT.
It will take at least two more Middle East dictatorships being toppled before they get it.
Syria is #1 on the "next" list but is too stupid to do what's required of them to prevent their own elimination.

The way to deal with terrorism is to turn Muslim against Muslim. If they will not turn, kill them and go on to the next one.
The problem is that the left in Europe, read, Chirak, Schröder, have out flanked us. The battle in America is now whether we will also be outflanked domestically by the likes of Dean and the 8 other dwarfs.
Everything the left is trying to do on both sides of the Atlantic is prevent us from the fundamental policy of setting rational muslims against terrorists.

The biggest mistake the US made in the middle east was not allowing Israel to destroy the ability of Syria and Egypt to make war in 1973, although I understand why it was done. The USSR was going to step in to protect it's puppets, so the US pressured Israel to stop.

Currently there's a bill being considered that calls for Syria to break all terror ties and leave Lebanon. It would be interesting for it to go through and the global population made aware.
