Intersection To Be Named For Joey Ramone
|
NOVEMBER 28TH, 2003
The corner of the Bowery and Second Street will soon be called "Joey Ramone Way."
The city will honor the late front man of the seminal punk band The Ramones by unveiling a street sign this Sunday at 1 p.m. The block is home to the CBGB nightclub where the band rose to fame.
The club will host a reception after the dedication.
The Ramones are considered by many to be the original punk band, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
Joey Ramone died of cancer in April 2001. |

Joey Ramone may be the only guy in Simpsons history so pale that they couldn't draw him as yellow!

Pity he was a raving leftist. Remember Bonzo goes to Bitburg?I don't think "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" was exactly a sneering condemnation of Reagan Administration policy. This is the RAMONES we're talking about here. It was about chords and silly lyrics.

I seem to recall several interviews w/Joey where he defended the lyrics and expounded on them...

From what I've read, Johnny made the band rename the single "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" For album release because he was a Reagan supporter. It may have been on the liner notes to the Ramones Mania compilation but I'm at work and can't check it out.
There was a much greater conservative/libertarian contingent in the earlier days...

Aren't you going to be there at the Dedication Ceremony, what with you being a member of the family and all? :)

I saw the Ramones in 1978 or '79. They opened for Black Sabbath and appeared at the Orange Show Auditorium in San Bernardino. They threw their instruments down and walked off the stage, because the jarheads(no offense guys)were heaving beer bottles and whiskey bottles on stage. This was back when you could actually get *that close*. I was actually touching the stage during both bands performances!
Those were the days!!!!

I was specifically going to post, "Morons! If it's anywhere besides Bowery and 2nd, it's wrong!"If they got it wrong, we could have always gone down there and "Beat On The Brat". ;-)
