When President Bush landed in Iraq for Thanksgiving dinner, Fox News was there, but CNN was not.
When the president travels, the White House uses a rotating system for a pool that includes newspaper, wire-service and television reporters, but news executives were not sure Thursday whether the standard procedures had been followed, according to a story in the Washington Post.
The 13 pool correspondents summoned for the trip included Jim Angle of Fox News, Terence Hunt of the Associated Press, Mike Allen of The Washington Post, Richard Keil of Bloomberg News, a Reuters reporter and photographers from Time, Newsweek and three wire services, the Post reported.
Kathryn Kross, CNN's Washington bureau chief, told the Post that a two-person crew from her network was dismissed from the White House pool Wednesday, with the understanding that no further news would be made.
"We're all for the president boosting the troops however the White House feels is appropriate," she said, according to the newspaper. "But apparently the White House put together its own group of people to accompany the president on this trip, and we're real interested to learn their reasons for doing that."

Maybe it could be because of the constant Bush-bashing and Fox News bashing on their "unbiased" station (according to Judy Woodruff)?
Naah....

Well, gee, maybe the White House wanted to make sure they didn't have someone there who hated the President so much that they would deliberately scuttle the trip. It's about trust, isn't it?

Why would the president grant access to a news agency that is going to turn right around and bash him? Memo to CNN: get a clue.

I can answer you. CNN! Stop siding with the enemy and causing American military deaths! Wise up, morons!

Think of it. Bush talks to regional reporters to remove the "filter" from Iraq war coverage and snubs CNN. You'd think they would get it sooner or later. I'm posting an article from my website, "Jeff Gannon's Washington" at www.jeffgannon.com:
ABC Doesn't Get Snub
Ann Compton, a correspondent for ABC news, recently delivered her news report on a Washington, DC talk show and then spent a few moments chatting with the hosts.
President Bush had just given an exclusive interview to a London tabloid, The Sun. She noted that the newspaper was owned by Rupert Murdoch and lamented that ABC was unable to get a similar interview with the President.
Why might she think that ABC deserves to have special access to President Bush? Perhaps poor Ann hasn't heard Terry Moran's accusatorial questions at the White House briefings. Maybe she is in a bar every night during Peter Jenning's broadcast. It's anybody's guess what she's doing on Sunday mornings when a former Clinton spokesman conducts the worst of the network news shows.
Most everyone else figured out how Bush felt about the quality of the coverage the major networks were giving to the war in Iraq when he announced he would give interviews to regional media. He explained that he wanted to remove the "filter" from the news coverage, what did Ann think he meant?
But then again, maybe ABC means Always Been Clueless.

Probably for security reasons. If CNN knew about it they probably would have leaked it before he left.

We're in a time of war against the terrorists, the President is visiting troops on the line, in a hostile situation, and CNN is whining about the "standard procedures" of the press pool? Sheesh.

The fact that they are the Clinton News Network should give her some sort of clue.

Mike Allen, the Bush-hating Compost reporter who was along on the trip said this morning on C-SPAN, the White House DOESN'T dismiss the pool. They will let you sit around doing nothing as long as you want.
The "pool" runs the pool, not the White House. The "pool" rotates pool reporters, cameramen, etc..

You can't be trusted. You're an extreme leftist propaganda organization, and you would probably break the story on the plane.

CNN is just mad because they had already planned out a segment, bashing President Bush for having his Thanksgiving in Crawford.

Well, maybe CNN because FOX can be trusted. I mean, how you can trust liberal media for their selfish points. But don't worry CNN; you had a chance to cover Hillary. Wasn't that fun. Sorry, but GWB is Commander and Chief, and that is where credit has to be do.
To: mhking
White House was probably worried that Christiane would find out about the trip and tell Al Qaeda.
