The one thing that seems to be a trend on FR is people forgetting that one of the foundations of the military is discipline. Without that we won't defeat anyone. Nothings perfect but the USMC works very well.
The military, that understands the situation they were in, will do a fair job of judging their actions.
It does sound like the sheer number of surrenders caused a problem in this case, but I trust the military to decide where any fault lies.
Prisoners must be treated as humanely as possible so the enemy will not be encouraged to fight instead of surrendering.
