Having been to each of these cities I'd say the descriptions are fairly accurate, particularly Seattle.

I don't think that I've ever been to Toledo (at least not on purpose), but I've had a wonderful time in some of these cities, including Seattle. The San Juan Islands are beautiful and there are some neat things to do in Seattle.

Our day comes when they post the Top 10 Best Cities to live in. ;-)

I'd have to agree with each of these, but add both Fresno and Stockton, CA somewhere down the list.

Love the Miami and Seattle descriptions.

Heavy ambivalence here. Understand, I love Seattle, it's beautiful and sparkling-clean, but so is a toilet bowl when you run that much water through it on a daily basis. It's actually refreshing to be a conservative here - you get to scream "I'm a gun-toting, meat-eating redneck and I hate hippies!" and the locals just nod and go "how quaint" as if you'd said you were a Wobblie or a Whig.

We just had a minor tectonic event in city government - it was astonishing how entrenched a certain coterie had become in a city so "progressive" on matters other than local. Several of these are now looking for work. Not a bad thing.

Traffic sucks. It really, really sucks, and there's so much water around here that they've built roads pretty much wherever possible. Still sucks. Way too many yuppies with cellphones stuck to their faces with velcro. In high tourist season the nearest downtown parking is in Canada. There's enough goose and seagull crap to peel the paint off an Abrams, and the place is chock-full of mind-numbed, addle-pated, self-righteous fools who get their daily marching orders from NPR and their daily ideology from local fish-wrappers slightly to the left of Pravda in the bad old days. The city flower is moss, the city anthem is "We Are The World," and the city motto is "to each according to his need, from each according to how much we can screw out of him."

But there's no state income tax (yet) and the Space Needle is kinda cool. Guess I'll stick around.

I have a very simple rule for domiciles. It's not 100% accurate, but definitely sufficient for me. Try it, it works:

Never live anywhere the TV and radio stations begin with a 'W'.

I'm about 25 miles west of C-town and live near the lake.Great community and the people are awesome. Don't go into downtown much. I don't feel safe and the bars/restaraunts too pricey and below average.Sports teams suck, but it's better than nothing.I'll go to a game every now and then.
To all you bashers of C-town,who cares about your opinion...just like everyone has a nose, everyone has an opinion. As long as you make the best of it wherever you are, life is good.I have a saying that goes,"every day I wake up and I'm on this side of the dirt it's a great day"!Doesn't matter where you are, just have great peolple to spend it with.

Miami got trashed for its people, which is unfair. It should get trashed for its weather ... fun for northerners in December thru February, but pure hell for everyone from May thru mid-October. Not just hot but muggy beyond belief. If you're not into intensive climate control, prepare yourself for heat rash and mildew. Of course, the people should get counted too; more than 40 years after Castro came to power, Miami is a native-born foreign colony, heavily larded with people who won't bother to learn ingles because they're all convinced they'll retake the island as soon as they overthrow Castro.

Any of these lists that omits Washington D.C. and New York City for tieing in first as worst city in the U.S. is bias.

What a silly list.

Anyone from Miami want to move to Detroit? Or Buffalo? Or Philly? Or some other dump that isn't on the list?

Sure you do. You're dying to swap some of that sea air and sunshine for filth, freezing snow and urban decay.

This one should be obvious to any intelligent human: Mormons and lots of them. Need we say more?

This is interesting. Mormon hating. Well, one time the governor of Missouri issued an extermination order against Mormons. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

No Newark, No Det-riot, no Pittspuke, no Portland.....it's a pretty good clue as to the nature of the writer. Cleveland's not for everyone and if you're a mincing "metrosexual" that's intrigued by the gay lifestyle though not quite intrigued enough to actually take a [CENSORED, CENSORED, CENSORED!!], it's probably not for you. (Of course if you've decided to actually "take the plunge", there's always Lakewood, Ann Arbor, or Pittsburgh).

This behindlicking interview of Darling-of-the-DUmbclintons Greg Palast (Warning...Projectile Barf Alert) and this neo-snobbish apologia for the Health Fascists. tells us all we really need to know about Kenny Boy.

I don't understand the author's point of view. I agree with some of his picks for lousy places but know for a fact that Cincinnati and Phoenix are both great places. Cincinnati has a 5 star restaurant (La Maisonnette) that has been 5 star for 40 consecutive years! I agree with other posters that Detroit should be at the top of the list; where the heck is Buffalo? Portland is a real pain also due to its way too liberal attitude. Omaha is rapidly moving upward on the violence list, real unsafe for white folk. Minneapolis belongs on his list as does Des Moines. Still, an interesting article.

There was a report on the news today that 4 out 5 drivers in Atlanta drives over 70 mph. Which is probably true. They drive like crazed maniacs here.

This author says Cleveland lacks a thriving nightlife? Apparently he's never visited The Flats. It's great. Plenty of restaurants and clubs there plus they are accessible by boats which frequently dock there.

4. Atlanta Any place nicknamed "Hotlanta" has to suck big time. Here's the catch: Did you ever meet someone who went to New York City and said, "I didn't like it, it was too dirty and oh my God there were all these weirdoes." Usually in the next sentence they'll say, "But I really like Hotlanta, it's so cool down there." That's because Atlanta is the city of choice for suburbanites who don't really like cities. Hence Atlanta has turned into nothing more than an over-sprawled suburb, just with more bad bars.

I'll give them the point about Atlanta. It is a city with no clear plan whatsoever. It really is a small core surrounded by a hodgepodge highway-riddled suburb.

It's got all the negatives of a suburb with all the negatives of a city. You simply cannot walk anywhere. I'm used to a cute little town called Webster, NY, where you could -- if you wanted the exercise -- walk to all your places of importance, yet was only 13 miles from Rochester, a traditional city.

In Atlanta, they seem to have the idea of having beautiful houses set back from the highways and nice .7 to 1 acre plots that are on extremely busy thoroughfares. I don't get it. Then the little cul-de-sacs are these cheesy little crowded thingEys on .2 acre miniplots.

I just don't get the place. I'm relocating pretty soon.

Man, what a snotty article. 'Course the author may be right about these places (except for Miami), but I think he could use an attitude adjustment.
