I'm typically okay with not giving death sentences too, as long as life in prison means just that. Unfortunately, all too often life in prison is 20 years.
This case is different and I hope he fries.

Yeah, we got this Thomas Trantino guy in Jersey. Kills two cops in cold blood, is convicted and sentenced to death, then has his sentenced commuted to life, and is now out on parole after 30 years. I would not necessarily like to see this guy in the ground, but I would sure like to see him in prison for the rest of his life.

Unfortunately, all too often life in prison is 20 years. Virginia abolished parole under Governor George Allen. I don't think there are any circumstances where he could get out.

Willie Horton was sentenced to DEATH.
In their wisdom the USSC declared the death penalty unconstitutional.
The Horton sentence was commuted to LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE
In his wisdom, Michael Dukaka decided this man deserved weekend passes to freedom.

I'm typically okay with not giving death sentences too, as long as life in prison means just that. I used to think that life in prison was too good for such monsters.
I've since come to realize that for such monsters, life in prison is no big deal--they probably enjoy it: they get to bully other prisoners and continue to feed their sick egos, have free food, room and board, drugs, etc.
We must not think they view prison as normal people view it--else why would their lawyers always fight to save their criminal clients from the death penalty?

Predators get used to prison. It is their realm.

as long as life in prison means just that. It doesn't..that's one of the big problems with 'life' sentences.
Our governor just let one loose.
