the H2 has no military pretensions. The traditional Hummer, star of Operation Desert Storm and numerous Join the Army commercials over the last decade or so, is now dubbed H1, at least in civilian garb. It remains a one-step-removed MilSpec one-and-a-quarter-ton truck of tremendous off-road ability and scant civilian amenities.
The Hummer folks craftily rummaged through GM's well-stocked parts bins and came up with an engine, transmission, front suspension, and brakes from the three-quarter-ton K2500 Suburban, a rear suspension (modified for longer travel and capacity) from the Tahoe, and a steering column and shifter from the TrailBlazer--and that's just for starters.
Your local dentist probably gets a yellow hummer H2, not an H1, which could conceivably be pressed into service. If this nation was mobilized for war there would be no Hummer H1's available for civilian sale. The entire manufacturer's output would be bought up by DOD.

Post #47 is right on the money...we can't afford to go back to the drawing board, we need to increase and accelerate uparmored H1 production.
It's a proven system that protects the troops.

Hope more folks pay attention to this...
The H2 does not have the off-road capacity that the HI/military Hummer has..
Not even close, although the advertisments would say otherwise.
Have a "buddy" who traded up to a H2 from a H1, had it for 2 days and traded back.
He let me try the H2, I see why he went back, even though it cost him some $$....

"If this nation was mobilized for war there would be no Hummer H1's available for civilian sale. The entire manufacturer's output would be bought up by DOD."LOL My buddy was telling me that during first Gulf War, back in '91, when his SpecOps unit hit the desert the first thing they did was go over and buy about 70 Range Rovers and Toyota Land Cruisers for the SOF guys to do recons. An H-1 is the most recognizable piece of American battle equipment in the world. The feeling was at the time that a Range Rover or Land Cruiser tooling across the desert could be a wandering sheik instead of an American patrol and would therefore be less likely to become an "rpg magnet." But he was telling me they bought SUV's off the lot via "local purchase" and they were fully loaded. I just have this hilarious image of a bunch of SOF guys rolling across the sand with the AC blasting and the stereo pounding with (take your pick) Charlie Daniels or Steppenwolf.

It seems like the troops would be better served on convoy duty to just get an "Executive-protection"-style armored pickup like the one below from
IbisTek. The air-conditioning would probably be appreciated by the troops too, as would the internally-aimed .50 cal
