All have been moved to chat.

Can you please quit calling "General Interest" chat?"....Change the link, or call it what it is. Part of the difficulty is that neither name describes the reality very accurately. "General interest" includes many topics of very parochial interest, whereas "chat" is what is done on every thread. And, as someone has mentioned, the forum currently is little more than Hobbitland.
I suggest renaming the General Interest/Chat forum the "The Water Cooler."
It would be suitable for any kind of non-activism topic that could be discussed among professions on break at work. Thus pop culture would be permissible. And so would requests for personal help. As well as discussions of weird topics. But porn and borderline porn (e.g. Victoria's Secret fashion show galleries) that aren't appropriate in a family-friendly site would be excluded...
What do fellow Freepers think of this idea?

It's just a click over to the General Interest Forum for the fluffy stuff. People just need to get used to the idea of seperate forums. Every other forum has them. No different here. Why can't we have a REAL "ALL Latest Posts" page. One that puts up the latest post regardless of which specific forum generated it. The latest from chat, religion, News...whatever.
That way, if you don't want to see "Chat" threads, just continue clicking only the "News" Latest Posts page. Same for the other forums...just click it's individual "Latest" page if that is all you are interested in.
Myself?.....I'd like one big page where I can see what's moving on all the forums.
Do this and you can be as hard as you want in policing placement.

They aren't anonymous to me or to Jim or to John. Again, pass this on so there is no confusion. Thanks.
Now I REALLY am leaving. Good night.

Proceed with the moderator bashing on this thread as is customary for these threads. ...And what if we don't want to bash the moderators? Huh? The nerve!

For example, I'll let a major sporting event go, if there hasn't been a ton of that in the main forum lately. So context matters-- for now. Should it? I don't think so. If you let it go once, that encourages both the original poster & the people who saw it to post similar items in the future. And I would think it'd generate understandable complaints the next time you DID move it to General Interest.
In other words, I think you guys ought to figure out what belongs in news and kick out *everything* that doesn't. If a thread looks questionable, you can assume that the burden of proof is on the poster to demonstrate relevance or newsworthiness in their comments after the main article.

Am I the only one here that uses the FReeper Beeper? I am totally dependent on it. If I don't get pinged, I don't tend to check my comments page. The problem is, you can have 100 posts to you from other forums, general interest, religion, backroom....whatever, and never realize it. If you don't routinely browse the other forums and you don't get pinged, for a fair amount of the time, they might as well not exist. That is why "chat" is thought of as a black hole.

You forgot to mention threads that are posted where the original title is edited from the source in order to spin it to fit ones agenda. Anything that can be done about that? need a link to an example?
