LOS ANGELES (AP) - Some leading men would balk at playing a goofy villain in a family film but Alec Baldwin loved being bad. In "Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat," the actor stars as the potbellied Larry Quinn, foil to Mike Myers' mischievous feline.

That's too bad. I wanted to see it. But not now.
BTW, I saw "Elf" this week. I didn't know that anti-American Ed Asner was Santa.
Please forgive me, O Spirit Of Patriotism.

He does play a good asshole role, though. He's a natural.

Make that former leading men. It's been a few years since he starred in a movie, and he's not aging well...

Egad.
You'd think he played the cat. <|:/~

It's too bad abuut Ed Asner. I used to love him as "Mr. Grant" on the Mary Tyler Moore show.
Don't beat yurself up over "Elf". If we all boycotted everything we were supposed to, we'd be living in caves, wearing burlap and eating bugs.

How was it? It is getting panned by some as pretty bad.

Its all the weight he's gained. I don't think he's had plastic surgery either----which isn't a bad thing IMO.

Personally, I think that is why he's not had a comeback. His career was on the skids after he demanded too much money to reprise Jack Ryan--and that was before he really got political.
I will say this though, I think he does a great job narrating Thomas the Tank Engine.

For example, I have no problem boycotting network tv because I don't have tv.
But, Ed Asner. I really don't like him.
I think it's because he reminds me of my former shop teacher. :-)

He wasn't much of a leading man even in his so-called leading man days. I thought he stunk in The Search for Red October.

I saw "Cat" this afternoon with my kids. The script writers and animation guys just HAD to take multiple opportunities to slip off-color items in for the amusement of the older people in the audience. I'll just mention one: near the end, when the talking fish is back in his fishbowl, you see the deep-sea diver ornament in the fishbowl -- except this one is naked except for the diving helmet (fortunately he's facing away) and is waving his bare butt in a "Chippindale" routine.

What Alec Baldwin said about Henry Hyde is far worse than anything else he's done. He's a pitiful excuse for a human being.

slip off-color items in for the amusement of the older people As an aside, I had never noticed how much "slipping in" was actually done in movies until I became politically active.
For example, I had seen "Sneakers" and hadn't thought much about it. Then, I watched it again on video and noticed at the end that Redford bankrupted the bad guys, viz., the Republican party.
Or, in the "Manchurian Candidate." I saw this one as a kid and, again, watched it recently on home video. In the movie, the good guys are the liberals, ACLU, etc. The bad guys are the Political Right.
I am amazed that we have endured so much brainwashing.
