He had a doctor declare that he had a condition in his spine that prevented him from military service.
Considering he is from the Dean Witter family, anyone doubt the doctor made his declaration with an eye towards the prominence of the family.
He has admitted spending a great deal of time skiing moguls following his exemption from the draft.

Why does this not surprise me?!Hey - that was my first thought.

What a bunch of non-news for a party that twice nominated and still bows to a draft-dodging, philadering, treasonist, rapist, egotistical, self-centered, drug dealing, muder arranging, corrupt thug who is every bit more charming and decent than his wife.

Well, to be fair, Pat Buchanan avoided Vietnam by claiming he had a bad knee...he's been an avid jogger for years.
Rush got out of the draft, too. Maybe Dean just had a high draft lottery number. Hell, my own father...who is extremely conservative...dodged the draft.
To: Flux Capacitor
Big deal. So Dean avoided the draft...and Cheney avoided the draft...and Gingrich avoided the draft...and Daschle and Lott and Hastert and DeLay and on and on and on.
To: Mudboy Slim
Dean's excuse is almost as good as Rush's < /sarcasm>

Not only this- but shortly after getting his deferral because of a back condition, he buggered out to the rockies for some black-diamond skiing.

I'd bet Dean never drove one of these, either!

No. There may be some explanation for why he avoided the draft. My father's dodge was totally legal. It's not like he went to Canada or anything.

I believe Daschle actually did serve. That would make him the only member of the congressional leadership that did.
