The issue of what is happening in Iraq right now is confusing, to say the least. The picture we've had placed in front of us is that Saddam holdouts and loyalists are behind much of the trouble. This may be true but to what degree I'm unsure. I'm rather unconvinced by the idea that this secular thug can inspire suicide bombers, especially as he's no longer in a position of absolute power.

It seems to me that much of the violence may be coming from Islamic fundamentalists, Shi'ites, al-Qaeda and other such extremists. Our worst nightmare. Like Iran before it, Iraq was a secular state and as such, is ripe for some sort of Islamic theocratic takeover. A swing to the other extreme.

A lot of people won't want to hear this, but the Pope was right. This war was a mistake.

Ummm... Taking the fight to Islamic Fundamentalists cannot be a mistake.

Saddam may not have been one himself. But he had no problem using them to do some of his dirty work. Indirectly, he was keeping them going.

And that is unnacceptable. Now the other countries know we mean business. Now is not the time to shrink away from our responsibilities to fight against Islamic Fundamentalists.

Some people are very particular about their wine.

They must not have liked this years vintage of French wine.

A very difficult situation in Iraq indeed. But to sit on the sideline and watch Saddam torture and kill innocent people for years and years is not right either. The UN resolutions were going noplace under his rule.

We know that. It's in the past. Not relevant here. What are you trying to say?

When was the last time some Baptist threw a grenade into a 7-11 for selling beer?

1979, my Uncle Eugene. No wait... it was for NOT selling beer. Sorry. Nevermind.

In Wisconsin, California and maybe about 15 other states, you can also get copious quantities of beer, wine, and liquor by mail. :) I never understood the whole PA liquor board thing.

In PA you get carded if you buy to much cold medicine

I went to stock up of supplies for the winter cold and was blown away when I was carded

I order my adult beverages from internet wine and spirits (owned by Randall's I think) with my credit card and it is delivered right to my front door UPS.
I am not in favor of restricting this kind of freedom either. Why on earth should anyone have to get in the car (!), and drive to a bad part of town to get their drink?
UPS isn't going to let a kid sign for it anyway.

Jeez...alcohol a sin punishable by death during the holidays. Yet blowing up hundreds of people in suicide bombings is ok. Now I get it.

Hey, when alcohol's around, people are gonna get bombed....

So let me get this straight: selling liquor is work, but lobbing a grenade isn't?

Islam remains opaque to me.
