SAN DIEGO (AP) - A human rights group demanded Thursday that the J.C. Penney Co. apologize for what it called a racial-profiling case that resulted in two Mexican shoppers being deported after their relative was detained as a suspected shoplifter. The American Friends Service Committee contends that store personnel wrongly targeted Antonio Flores Noyola as a suspected thief while the San Diego man and his family shopped at the Plaza Bonita mall in National City on Nov. 14.

I don't know exactly what my rights are. ... But there should be justice."

Justice is when wrongdoers are punished, which is exactly what happened here.

Funny that people seem to think that when they do wrong and are punished - all of a sudden it is not justice.

It's a little strange that a California drivers license or a matricula card passed for legal documents. It sounds like maybe none of the bunch was really here legally. Mexico does the same thing if it encounters foreigners who have no permission to be in that country --- it deports them and bans them from reentry for at least 5 years.

Wrong doers weren't punished. They were simply sent home.

These are illegal Mexican criminals who commit other crimes here in the US and entice Americans to also commit crimes such as when they illegally employ illegal aliens.

Matricula cards prove squat. If a Mexican has documents issued by the US, God bless him, he's palying by the rules that we set up. But, if he has Mexican garbage then, yes, absolutely, he should be sent home. The problem, here, is that these are only two of 8 million who have been sent back.

Alas, they will try to bash Penneys so hard that US businesses will be reluctant to refuse to do business with these criminals. The pressure should be against those who hire these criminals!

J.C. Penney should not be asking people for papers."

They didn't, the cops did.

"Shoppers should be safe to go to any store in the county or in this country without carrying any kind of visa, any kind of passport," Ramirez said. "J.C. Penney is not a port of entry. J.C. Penney should not be asking people for papers."

So asking to see a person's ID is akin to asking to see a person's "papers"? I didn't realize that when I went to my bank today to cash a check and the teller asked to see some ID, the teller was actually asking me for my "papers".

seems like the POLICE did the right thing. Asked for ID when the ID was sketchy, he sought more assistance from border patrol.

Methinks they doth protest too much. There should be a video on the security camera.

These criminals think they should just waltz right in and take over with no questions asked. Why wouldn't they when the government is an accomplice in their criminality.

Do not resist the merger, now in progress, of the United States and Mexico. Let go of your outdated notions of "sovereignty", "independence", "language", and "culture". That's all just misplaced nostalgia now.

George Bush

Karl Rove

Hey moron, hispanic is not a race. It is an ethnicity, like being Italian. Cut the race-baiting crap and stop aiding and abetting lawbreakers.

""We value all of our customers. Under no circumstance do we ever, at J.C. Penney, ID customers who are shopping at our stores," she said. "
I will print this and use it the next time I want to cash a check at Penny's...should be good for a few laughs.

"Flores said he considers the incident "shameful" and traumatic for himself and his family. "It's not right. It's not fair all that this store did," he said in Spanish. "On questions of law, I don't know much. I don't know exactly what my rights are. ... But there should be justice.""
He DOES seem to know a little bit about "questions of law"
Like they don't apply to him or his tia; in spanish.

If they ever do this at Mervyn's, there would be nothing left but an empty store.
