British Ambassador: "My family and I will be staying in Israel"
By JPOST.COM STAFF

British Ambassador Simon Macdonald said Thursday night that the British Foreign Office had issued him with new security instructions following today's attack on British targets in Istanbul.

At least 27 people were killed at over 450 wounded in double suicide truck bombings Thursday morning in a busy commercial center on northern Istanbul.

British Consul-General Roger Short was one of sixteen killed in the attack on the British Consulate.

The attacks were timed to coincide with US President George W. Bush's visit to England, Ambassador Macdonald said on Channel One Thursday night.

"The Foreign Office in London has issued new security instructions to British ambassadors all over the world. "We are making some adjustments and reviewing our security," Macdonald said.

"My family will be staying with me in Israel," the Ambassador, who lives in the Tel-Aviv area added.

Asked whether he could draw any parallels between al-Qaida and Palestinian terror groups, Macdonald said he drew no distinctions between terrorist acts. "Terrorist acts are terrorist acts," the Ambassador said. "Al-Qaida is completely destructive. Hamas has a political side to their agenda, but when they resort to terrorism they must be treated as terrorists.

Clearly Ambassador Macdonald gets it. Now if he could only explain this to Jack Straw.

Hamas has a political side to their agenda, but when they resort to terrorism they must be treated as terrorists.

So is he saying if Hamas stopped committing terrorism, and only did political things like teaching children to kill Jews, they will not be seen by the UK as terrorists?

What about Al Queda's political side?

The hypocrisy is staggering.
