A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos) - 11.20.03

The President had a busy day in London today, with a visit with Laura to Westminster Abbey, and a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, a meeting at 10 Downing Street with Tony and Cherie Blair, a joint press conference with the two strongest leaders in the world, and a visit to a London school for a Shakespearian production by the children for the First Ladies, and a tour of the Faberge items at the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace.

There are more than a hundred photos out there today, and even with culling a bit, I will be posting many!

Enjoy your (massive) Daily Dose of Dubya!!

I was able to see his entire speech, given Wednesday, on C-SPAN last night, as well as the toasts at the state dinner in Buckingham Palace. The president paid an absolutely heartfelt, strong, and incredibly gracious compliment to Tony Blair. Here's the verbatim quote:

"America has always found strong partners in London, leaders of good judgment and blunt counsel and backbone when times are tough. And I have found all those qualities in your current Prime Minister, who has my respect and my deepest thanks." President George W. Bush, November 19, 2003 (with strong, firm emphasis on the word "backbone").

It took a beat or two for the audience to absorb this, but they gave a warm round of applause when they did.

For those who are interested, here's a link to the full text of this magnificent speech by our President.

I liked the perspective that pic added to the PM's house, and the presidential limo, with the two couples out front.

Thanks for noticing!

So many good ones today - I especially like this one. Only two leaders who share this type of enormous responsibility on a global and national scale can truly understand what the other is carrying, and out of that mutuality, there is a bond like no other.

I think our W is jetlagged bigtime.

There certainly is a different reaction than to the slobbery aggression of Chirac!

The nice thing about posting, is that I've already got them all in a nice, neat file!

These historical moments are the best, and well worth the PAIN I'm experiencing right now! :o)

Those looks on Bush's and Blair's faces have a lot of inside communication going on between one another I think.

I thought the same thing about this pic from yesterday --

But I think I like the pic you referred to even more --

There's a special bond between these two. I've heard they talk to each other at least once a week. Personally, I think the fact that they are both devout Christians has a lot to do with it. I know that Blair is leader of the Labour Party, which means he's pretty liberal on domestic issues. But at this point in our history, what seems to bind and separate people isn't so much ideological philosophies, but spiritual perspectives. Bush and Blair are united on a view of the world which stems from their shared spiritual faith. This, I believe, is the source of their strong partnership, mutual trust and respect. It is a way in which God is blessing both our nations, and the world through the leadership of these two men of faith.

Thanks, Gretchen for that post. My sister-in-law forwards alerts from The Elijah List, but I had not seen this one. My wife and I are meeting with another couple this Friday evening to pray for the effort in Iraq, and for safety for our troops. We'll add this concern to our prayers.
