I was able to see his entire speech, given Wednesday, on C-SPAN last night, as well as the toasts at the state dinner in Buckingham Palace. The president paid an absolutely heartfelt, strong, and incredibly gracious compliment to Tony Blair. Here's the verbatim quote:

"America has always found strong partners in London, leaders of good judgment and blunt counsel and backbone when times are tough. And I have found all those qualities in your current Prime Minister, who has my respect and my deepest thanks." President George W. Bush, November 19, 2003 (with strong, firm emphasis on the word "backbone").

It took a beat or two for the audience to absorb this, but they gave a warm round of applause when they did.

For those who are interested, here's a link to the full text of this magnificent speech by our President.

I continue to be amazed (tho I shouldn't--he's proven himself over and over) that the President stands by his decisions, his morals, his beliefs, no matter what others are saying. He won't let us down because of what some polls or other say. It was neat to see him support Tony Blair. And as I saw them speak about the latest terrorist attacks, I thought, "The terrorists are making a BIG mistake, thinking either of these two will back down." I think these continued attacks will give more and more support to the "good guys."

Wolfstar, love your tagline. I have that portion of Pres. Bush's inaugural address posted on my "About" page.
