CBS Early Show has a Vegan Doctor on TV to bash Atkins Diet
CBS Morning Show
Posted on 11/20/2003 5:01:40 AM PST by rightisright
Just finished watching an interview with Dr. Neal Barnard on CBS's morning Show. The show began with the standard line about the dangers of the Atkins diet. The interview was with Dr. Neal Barnard who was very vociferous in his arguments against the Atkins diet.
Well, I googled the guy and it turns out he and the organization he fronts favor a Vegan diet and the elimination of meat in any diet. Was there a disclaimer? Was there any qualification about who this doctor was and his agenda? Of course not, this is CBS

Personally I've been quite happy with my progress on Atkins. It is certainly not the diet for everyone but it works for me.

I heard a blurb about that this morning... while I was eating my breakfast of eggs and sausage.

My wife has lost in excess of 40 lbs. using the Atkin's diet. I'd say it works!

There is no question that the food recommendations from the federal government will include lower figures on the daily intake of carbohydratres. Hard to say if it will ever get to the level that Atkins recommends but who knows. CBS is a bunch of jerks anyway.
PS Liberals hate meat.

Your wife's weight loss is encouraging to me. I just started on Atkins yesterday - so far, so good, but I sure love homemade bread! Wish me luck.

Like my wife (a fine chef) always says:
If we were supposed to be vegetarian, we'd have a mouth full of molars.

Check

My wife said the same, she misses the baked goods. But she also said she feels great, and to be honest, I'm proud of her. She's really stuck with it, and the results really show.
So good luck and stick with it, you (and you husband) will be glad you did!

it'll do in a pinch (and it's not bad - has that bitter skunky hoppy flavor I like in a pale beer), but when I say beer I mean Guinness, Black Butte Porter, etc. lol. :-)
(or as the head gal down at one of my locals calls it - Motor Oil)

Interviews with people like Dr. Neal Barnard is the reason I don't watch the network news shows anymore. Did they tell you this guy is a psychiatrist? Or that his orgainization and PETA are interchangable? I'll bet no.
" The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has participated in scare campaigns about pollution from livestock farming, meat irradiation, mad cow disease, and the alleged overuse of antibiotics in farm animals. Those disparate causes have one common element: they all serve to frighten consumers away from eating meat. Which is exactly what the animal liberationists at PCRM want.
The evidence that PCRM is an animal rights group is overwhelming. In 2003, Neal Barnard was nominated for induction into the Animal Rights Hall of Fame. And according to the Daily Californian, in 1989 Neal Barnard told a UC Berkeley audience: I dont approve of the use of animals for any purpose that involves touching them -- caging them.
The PCRM-PETA Connection
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has used a tax-exempt affiliate called the Foundation to Support Animal Protection (FSAP) to funnel at least $592,000 to PCRM. This foundation, whose letterhead now shows that it is doing business as The PETA Foundation, has the same mailing address as PETA, and PETA owns its website address. Newkirk and Barnard are two of FSAPs three directors.
And PETA itself directly gave PCRM over $265,000 between 1988 and 1999.
Barnard is PETAs medical advisor and regularly writes for PETAs publications. He admitted in a sworn deposition (International Primate Protection League v. Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund, 1992) that PCRM has been housed at PETA headquarters in the past. He also acknowledged requesting and receiving money from PETA, and using a PETA-owned car to drive back and forth from work. According to Barnards deposition, PETA even paid the salaries of some of PCRMs staffers.
Citing an unnamed, former PETA employee, a 1989 article in Washingtonian magazine reads:
PETA funds were used, he says, to finance membership campaigns and activities of two anti-vivisectionist organizations, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and the National Association of Nurses Against Vivisection (NANAV). Both organizations were housed, rent-free, in PETAs headquarters, he says, and the respective heads of the groups, Neal Barnard and Susan Brebner, were introduced to him as PETA staff members. "

Stick it out. I 've lost 7 pounds in a month of being on the Atkins diet. The second day was the worst. I really craved carbs. By the third day, I was no longer craving them. The big test has been staying away from my kids' halloween candy. I'm not even tempted. (In the past, I used to eat it while they were at school, same with Easter candy.)
An added bonus is in feeling better. No more low blood sugar reactions, more energy, and a better night's sleep.
To: Pern; CDHart
We've been on it for about two months now, and the results are amazing.
We started out by simply cutting back on all carbs for the first month, being careful never to consume more than 50 grams. Now, we've cut them down to no more than 20 grams/day.
I used to suffer from daily, frequent headaches. No more.
I used to suffer from heartburn several times a day. No more.
Energy is up, waistline is down, and I'm now able to button the top button on all of my dress shirts. lol
It really does feel great!
I'm not surprised in the least that there is so much resistance to this plan from the medical community. It goes against everything they've said for the last several decades with regard to their Food Pyramid.
lol...I wouldn't be surprised if "Big Bread" gets together and attempts to make Atkins illegal.

Gee, hasn't anyone been on tv promoting a raw diet? That appears to be the latest trend. I've heard your grey hair can even regain its color pigmentation.

The sugar withdrawals have been the most difficult to handle.
I don't miss bread, rice, potatos, fries, donuts, bagles, etc...
But man...I'd kill someone for a cookie. lol
