CNN | 11/20/03

I was watching the Tony Blair and President Bush press conference and an American reporter asked a question on the lines of do you believe Muslims and Christians worship the same God.

President Bush said that Christians and Muslims worship the same God!!!!

"Please pray for President Bush's understanding of Islam and Christianity. This could do in his whole Presidency."

Bush does indeed need our prayers. I see that many fine Christians on this thread have no apprecdiation of the tightrope Bush has to walk on this issue.

He could have given a theological answer, but that would only have enraged about 12 percent of the population of the entire world.

Do you know how to tell if a messenger is a false prophet?

Test his words against the Bible.

We all worship the same god, we just fight over His messagers (real or false).

And, thus, fight over His message (real or false).

It's that "real or false" that makes all the difference in the world.

I have no desire to see G-d falsely. I wish to see Him in truth. It is important to me to be proven wrong where I am wrong, and to be reaffirmed where I am right.

For most, as you say, it's just theological mumbo-jumbo, but I would be no more happy believing the wrong message than I would be believing a lie about my wife.

Love seeks truth.

Shalom.

Most muslims love God as revealed by Abraham and Moses.

As revealed in Koran by Muhammad. Koran mentions Abraham and Moses but in a distorted way.

You would think a real, all-powerful, all-knowing God would have enough of this foolishness to take five minutes out of His busy schedule and pop onto some mountain and speak for himself instead of going through unreliable middlemen with their own flaws and agendas.

""Your god advocated the sacrifice of a man's son upon an alter, allowed the death of Able, committed genocide to clense the world, advocated slavery, domination of women, and a host of politically incorrect attrocities in the old testiment which were subsequently mollified in the new""

No, I do not think that God has to speak for Himself, After you read the Bible with the desire to know the true Living God, What more can God say that he has'nt already said??
YOU want more words when you have not even given heed to the ones he already wrote??????????????????????????

"Muslims may contend that all of these warped maniacs are misreading the Koran. If that's the case there are millions of mis-readings going on as we speak. Not tens, hundreds or even thousands. Millions."

Muslims will tell you that the Koran speaks "metaphorically" in the passages that speak of "making war on non-believers." After the 9-11 attacks, an Imam addressed the congregation of our church. According to the Imam when the Koran speaks of making war on non-believers it means spreading Islam with the same level of commitment and zeal as if you were fighting a war.

It seems to me that the Koran is pretty straightforward in terms of the intent of those passages. Trying to arrive at a non-violent interpretation of the Koran is akin to re-interpreting the meaning of "is."

I don't know how a Christian could say that the demon moon god the Muslims worship is the same as God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Look at how Muslims act, justifing terror and murder in the name of their "god".

Is this the same God that said "love your ememies and turn the other cheek"?

I think not.

President Bush needs to read his Bible.

The reporter wasn't looking for truth, unless you believe that the AP reporter was just sitting there this morning looking to the President of the United States to solve a theological question that had been troubling the reporter for some time.

No, the reporter was looking to play "gotcha" and stir up trouble, either between Christians (as is evident here) or between Christians and Muslims, which is what would have happened if the question had been answered the other way.

Sending troops into northern Iraq doesn't complicate their situation with the Kurds!?! You don't have a clue what you are going on about. They sent troops in an attempt to get a foothold of disputed territory and spy on Kurds. Basically to keep kurds the hell out of their country and wanting a separate state. They had no intentions of helping us and still don't.

You people have fallen for the trick question. How could Bush answer it without someone getting disgruntled? If he had said that we worship different gods, then there would be people saying, "well, how many gods are there?" "If there is only one god, then only one religion is 'right'. Are you saying, Mr. President, that Muslim people are wrong in their beliefs?"

Everybody knows we all worship the same God, we might as well just have one whole world religion.

Under the enlightened and discrete supervision by the benevolent brotherhood which is initiated into overcoming the sectarian differences. :)

You know, I do believe I know a little something about this. I also am growing tired of your ranting. Like I said, the President didn't tell YOU what to think, only what HE thought.

Completely agree and if you read the story of Abraham in Genesis you find support for this.

and islam has a form of the new testment incorporated since they see Jesus as another prophet

They are various sects and cults which "see Jesus as another prophet". This does not mean that they actually incorporate the New Testment. New Testament and Koran are quite apart.

**Test his words against the Bible.

I suppose that depends on your definition of 'bible'.

I have chosen to use the AMP version because it contains a footnote in the second portion.

Deuteronomy 13 (AMP)
1 IF A prophet arises among you, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder he foretells to you comes to pass, and if he says, Let us go after other gods--gods you have not known--and let us serve them,
3 You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or to that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being.
4 You shall walk after the Lord your God and [reverently] fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and cling to Him.
5 But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has talked rebellion and turning away from the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of bondage; that man has tried to draw you aside from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So shall you put the evil away from your midst.
6 If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own life entices you secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods--gods you have not known, you nor your fathers,

Dueteronomy 18 (AMP)
15 The Lord your God will raise up for you [1] a prophet (Prophet) from the midst of your brethren like me [Moses]; to him you shall listen.(2)
16 This is what you desired [and asked] of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.
17 And the Lord said to me, They have well said all that they have spoken.
18 I will raise up for them a prophet (Prophet) from among their brethren like you, and will put My words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
19 And whoever will not hearken to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.
20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.
21 And if you say in your [minds and] hearts, How shall we know which words the Lord has not spoken?
22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or prove true, that is a word which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Footnotes

1. The insertion of this promise in connection with the preceding prohibition might warrant the application which some make of it to that order of true prophets whom God commissioned in unbroken succession to instruct, to direct, and warn His people; in this view the gist of it is, "there is no need to consult with diviners and soothsayers, for I shall afford you the benefit of divinely appointed prophets, for judging of whose identity a sure clue is given" (Deut. 18:20, 22). But the prophet here promised was preeminently the Messiah, for He alone was "like unto Moses in His mediatorial character; in the peculiar excellence of His ministry; in the number, variety, and magnitude of His miracles; in His close and familiar communion with God; and in His being the author of a new dispensation of religion." This prediction was fulfilled 1,500 years afterwards, and was expressly applied to Christ by Peter (Acts 3:22, 23) and by Stephen (Acts 7:37) (Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset and David Brown, A Commentary).

Jamieson points out the verses that indicate a false prophet. He also links them to the Messiah (false Messiah as the case may be) and to christ by way of Peter.

Are the following words, the words of a false prophet??? They didn't come true. The heavenly Kingdom is not here, yet all the people to whom these words were spoken are dead and they died NOT seeing the Kingdom arrive in their lifetimes.

Mark 9 (NIV)
1 And he said to them, "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power."

Mark 9 (NASB)
1 And Jesus was saying to them, "(1) Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power."

Mark 9 (MSG)
1 Then he drove it home by saying, "This isn't pie in the sky by and by. Some of you who are standing here are going to see it happen, see the kingdom of God arrive in full force."

Mark 9 (AMP)
1 AND JESUS said to them, Truly and solemnly I say to you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste death before they see the kingdom of God come in [its] power.

Mark 9 (NLT)
1 Jesus went on to say, "I assure you that some of you standing here right now will not die before you see the Kingdom of God arrive in great power!"

Mark 9 (KJV)
1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Mark 9 (ESV)
1 And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power."

Mark 9 (CEV)
1 I can assure you that some of the people standing here will not die before they see God's kingdom come with power.

Mark 9 (NKJV)
(1) 1 And He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power."

Mark 9 (KJ21)
1 And He said unto them, "Verily I say unto you, that there are some of them that stand here who shall not taste of death till they have seen the Kingdom of God come with power."

Mark 9 (ASV)
1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There are some here of them that stand by, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God come with power.

Mark 9 (WE)
1 Jesus said to them, `I tell you the truth. Some people are standing here who will not die before they see the kingdom of God come with power.'

Mark 9 (Darby)
1 And he said to them, Verily I say unto you, There are some of those standing here that shall not taste death until they shall have seen the kingdom of God come in power.

Mark 9 (WYC)
1 And he said to them, Truly I say to you, that there be some men standing here, which shall not taste death [1] , till they see the realm of God coming in virtue.

Mark 9 (NIV-UK)
1 And he said to them, I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.

Mark 9 (GNT)
1 And he went on to say, "I tell you, there are some here who will not die until they have seen the Kingdom of God come with power."

YHVH told us in Deuteronomy 18, how we would know a false prophet, one who would speak things not commanded by YHVH, and we would know the words were not commanded by YHVH because they didn't come true. A false prophet that would perform miracles.

Some have claimed the Jews were blind. Perhaps it is those that are following the false prophet that are blind, so they can accept the great delusion and believe the lie.
